SUKKUR, Sept 11: At least 2,000 cordless telephone numbers were closed down by the PTCL on the complaint of law enforcing agencies in Jacobabad district on Tuesday.
Law enforcing agencies claimed that their secret messages were being overheard on cordless telephones. So the PTCL disconnected at least 2,000 cordless telephones in Kashmore, Kandhkot, Thal and other areas of Jacobabad district on Tuesday.
As a result more than 300 villages of the area have been affected. Now in case of an emergency, those affected will be unable to contact anybody.
The DPO, Jacobabad, Din Mohammad Baloch, claimed that due to cordless telephones, the work of law enforcing agencies was suffering because all their messages regarding the movements of outlaws were being overheard.
PROTEST: Cordless telephone subscribers held a protest demonstration in front of the Thal Press Club against the PTCL authorities.
They demanded the PTCL authorities to restore their cordless phones.
They said that the PTCL had disconnected 300 cordless telephones in Thal alone.
ARREST DEMANDED: The DPO, Shikarpur, visited the Bhirkan village, near Chak, on Tuesday, where the body of a woman, Abida Mahar, was dug from a grave, its shroud taken off and then put in a mosque on Sunday night. He also visited the graveyard from where her body was removed.
The DPO directed the SHO, Chak, to arrest the culprits as soon as possible.
He met with the relatives of the woman and assured them of every cooperation in this respect.
