KARACHI, Sept 10: The 24 heavy duty generators acquired by Karachi University to help overcome the problem of frequent power outage have not as yet been made operational despite the passage of quite a lot of time, the campus sources said here on Wednesday.

They said that these generators were to be made operational on July 27, but it was still not known as when these would start functioning.

The generators remained at the Karachi Port for several months for on account of the problems of clearance and duty. When they were finally released and reached the campus, the problem of installation arose.

The sources said the University administration had thought of constructing rooms for the security of equipment. “It is not known when the rooms will be constructed and when the generators will start functioning”, a senior faculty member said.

In the meantime teachers and students continue to suffer power outage at the campus and the problem may become acute during October.—APP
