LAHORE: A special team of the City District Government of Lahore (CDGL) on Friday seized about 600kg of dead chicken and meat from Tolinton Market, the city’s largest meat bazaar.

The team also got three shopkeepers arrested, while three others managed to escape.

According to officials, the team led by the CDGL’s livestock district officer was informed that a large quantity of dead chicken had been brought to the market.

“On receiving information, we rushed to the spot and found butchers slicing the dead chicken into pieces,” District Officer Dr Rahat told Dawn.

He said the team captured three sellers, while as many others managed to escape. Later, those captured were handed over to Shadman police.

He said the team also discarded the seized chicken and meat.

He appealed to the public to be vigilant and get chicken slaughtered in their presence while buying the meat.
