KARACHI: Security alert for Sept 11

KARACHI, Sept 9: Police has been placed on a red alert in view of the second anniversary of 9/11 incident, and snap checking of vehicles has been intensified in the city on Tuesday evening.

An unusual movement of police mobile vans and motorcycles has been witnessed in several areas including Jamshed Quarters, Mobina Town, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Model Colony, Clifton, Preedy, Saddar, Civil Lines, and other areas. The policemen were seen busy in checking vehicles and motorcycles in the city.

The security has been beefed up in view of the second anniversary of the horrific incident of Sept 11, when the World Trade Towers were attacked and razed to ground in Washington DC, USA.

The sources said that a series of meetings were held by the high officials in Sindh government and they ordered tightened of security in the city by putting the police on red alert to meet any eventuality.

DIG (Operations), Tariq Jamil, while talking to Dawn on telephone said: “We are prepared and will take every possible step to maintain law and order in the metropolis.”

He said secret cameras had been installed at various sensitive locations, and added that the police would remain in field on mobile vans, motorcycles, and on horses.

He said the trained commandos had also been deployed at very sensitive places, including the US and other foreign consulates, offices of high commissions, residences of foreign dignitaries, important government and private offices, multinational companies and important installations.
