GUJRANWALA: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) staged a rally in protest against burning of hoardings and banners of the party and demanded action against those involved in the act.

Led by PTI district president Rana Naeemur Rehman, the rally started from Lohianwala Bypass and terminated at Gondlanwala Chowk after parading on GT Road.

Addressing the participants, Mr Rehman, ticket holder Khalid Aziz Lone, former MPA S.A Hameed and Syed Hasan Jaffari said sizable hoardings and banners with Imran Khan’s photos erected along GT Road, General Bus Stand, Trust Plaza and Shaheenabad were set ablaze. “The act is an attempt to harass PTI workers,” they alleged.

They said separate applications had been lodged with Model Town and Dhulley police stations against some 20 people.

They said it was the responsibility of police and the district administration to provide safety and protection to PTI leaders and workers on the day of their public meeting.

Police claimed they had not received any application from the PTI leadership for the registration of a case.

SP Maqsood Ahmad said the action would be taken only after police received any application from complainants.

Meanwhile, police have finalised a security plan for PTI’s public meeting where 2,200 policemen will be deployed.

Over 300 policemen will remain alert in the police lines while 50 officials of the special branch will frisk the people inside the stadium to avoid any untoward incident.

Assistant Commissioner Attiqur Rehman and City Police Officer Waqas Nazir along with the local PTI leadership visited Jinnah Stadium and reviewed security arrangements.
