KARACHI: The Beaconhouse School System held a literary evening at its DHA Campus to discuss the challenges faced by Urdu and its fast losing young audience and the reasons behind the same.

Themed Our Writers Our Heros – Hamaray Adeeb Hamaray Hero, the event's audience was a keen set of O’ Level & A’ Level students of The Beaconhouse Southern Region.

Aimed at broadening the students' reading interests and introducing Urdu writers and poets to them, the event held on Friday showcased a panel discussion comprising of current renowned Urdu literary figures Zehra Nigah, Fehmida Riaz, Attiya Dawood and businessman-cum-Urdu enthusiast Wajid Jawwad.

The topic of the discussion was whether Urdu literature has been able to keep up with the changing times - especially when it comes to young adult readers.

The event aimed at drawing students so they may listen to and admire good literature and poetry being read as well as interact with and draw inspiration from local writers and intellectuals.

Besides the panel discussion, there were dramatic rehearsed readings in Urdu by “Zambeel” and Beaconhouse students Shehreyar Ahmed and Maryam Ali performed ghazals and piano recitals respectively.
