KARACHI: The West Pakistan Government has sanctioned Rs 25 lakhs to finance the preparation of Master Plan for the sprawling City of Karachi. A team of consultants will also be appointed to work on the preparation of the Master Plan, besides the existing staff for the purpose in the Karachi Development Authority. This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Karachi, Mr. Roedad Khan, who is also the Chairman of the KDA, while presiding over the first meeting of the Master Plan Advisory Committee in Karachi yesterday.

The committee consists of the representatives of various Government and semi-Government departments as well as prominent citizens of Karachi to advise the KDA on the preparation of revised Master Plan for Karachi. Mr Roeded Khan, in a brief speech, outlined the functions of the committee. He explained that the development of the City is taking place at an unprecedented rate. He reminded that many serious civic problems have raised their heads and it was not possible to cope with them without a co-ordinated effort not only in assessing the problems but also in preparing a systematic and co-ordinated programme for their solution. It was with this intention that he had proposed the formation of the Advisory Committee, he observed.
