Qadri rejects JIT, asks Army chief to 'keep his promises'

LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Allama Dr Tahirul Qadri on Friday rejected a Joint Investigation Team formed by the Punjab government to investigate the June 17 killings in Lahore's Model Town.
Speaking to supporters in Lahore via video link from Toronto, Qadri refused to accept any JIT either formed under the Punjab police or without the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
“If the prime minister had to form a JIT, he should have headed it himself and given himself a clean chit,” he remarked.
The five-member JIT, headed by Quetta police chief Abdur Razzaq Cheema and comprising one member each from two security agencies and an SP and a DSP nominated by the Punjab IG, was notified by the Punjab government on Thursday about two and a half months after a sessions court ordered registration of a fresh FIR on a complaint of the PAT.

Party leaders say Qadri, who is currently in Canada apparently to reorganise his party and raise funds, will return to Pakistan on Nov 20 to lead a countrywide anti-government campaign.
The cleric-turned-politician, who has been at the forefront of widespread anti-government protests by the opposition, also reminded Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif of what he claimed to be promises that he made in a meeting during an anti-government sit-in in Islamabad in protest against the Model Town incident.
“Army Chief Sahib! You had given your word on the resignation of CM Punjab. You had also promised transparent investigation into the Model Town tragedy,” he said. “When will the arrest warrants be issued for Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif?”
Qadri also claimed that his party registered the FIR of the Model Town incident at the Army chief’s behest. “We now ask you to fulfill your promise of having justice served on the martyrs of Model Town,” he said.

Qadri’s words come two days after an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad issued non-bailable arrest warrants for him and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for inciting people to attack PTV and Parliament buildings and making an attempt on the life of senior police officer SSP Asmatullah Junejo.
Earlier today, the court declared both PTI and PAT leaders as absconders in the case.
Both leaders deny the charge, while Khan says he will not seek bail from the ATC, and has dared the government to arrest him.

Qadri and Imran Khan should be arrested on charges of trying to incite a coup. And if their supporters take to the streets, they should be arrested as accomplices. It is about time Pakistan stopped tolerating attacks on its democratic governments.

With the exception of Abdul-Sattar Edhi and general Raheel Sharif, no one enjoys the confidence of even 30% of Pakistanis. It is a fact that our internal and external enemies have very successfully exploited our national propensity to doubt. When the Quaid said unity, faith and discipline, he was also pointing out this nation's shortcomings.

ATC issues order to arrest TUQ and in order to blackmail gov. TUQ drags the MT murders again in limelight although the problem was still there when he left for Canada suddenly absolving dharna. It's nothing but politics and very dirty at that. Sic!

You cannot arrest IK and TUQ because their supporters beat up an IG when no one got arrested for killing a dozen people live on TV in Lahore. You cannot do that and expect any foreign investors -- and that includes foreign money of politicians -- to invest in Pakistan. They won't invest because these actions cause political instability. The government has a chance to get things right and bring us political stability but they refuse to take it. It's a shame really.

PM NS was the one who had asked the army chief to intervene in the first place. And now if TQ is reminding the army chief about something they talked about --- what's wrong with that.
People who are critisizing TQ for asking the army chief --- should criticize NS for inviting the army chief.

Calm down everyone...Dr. Qadri's request to the Army Chief is very limited. He is not asking for anything more than the limited intervention needed to form a fair, independent JIT. Nothing else is being requested here.

IK & Qadri are flyby night operators popped up by the spooks and will disappear into oblivion soon just like Zaid Hamid. The only difference now and then was its a 2 prong attack on the political party by combining a political party and adding religious form factor to destabilize democracy. Zaid Hamid was targeting India and diverting attention from military.

What does the army chief have to do anything with a state civilian chief resigning or not resigning? What kind of system is this? Looks like the pakistan civilian politicians believe that only army is the power and not the people. In a "normal" democracy, politicians ask the people to vote against the ruling politicians but i guess this sort of attitude is "normal" here.

How can you trust such an army and intelligence agencies who were accomplice in the attack by US navy seals in Abbottabad, all of them remained sleeping. It is absolutely foolish to have any faith and respect for army and intelligence agencies of Pakistan ---complete sold out. All top ranking generals have properties and assets in USA and European countries.

I just want to know what kind of promises military chief made to Alama Sahib. Was it to overthrow the P.M. and make Mr, Quadri the President or PM. Then what about I.K. or was he left out. In Pakistani democracy it seems Army has the final say even tho it reports to the PM. Its a lopsided arrangement.

I am not supporting anyone nor i am against anyone, but question demand answer, that why TQ left Dharna? Why he went from Pakistan to oversea? Despite many clarifications but the question remain as it is?
IK still struggling and may be on day he is going to win, provided if the opponent feel shame after so many evidences of corruptions.
