JIT formed to probe Model Town incident

LAHORE: The government formed a five-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on Thursday to probe into the Model Town incident, DawnNews reported.

Other than law enforcement agencies, the probe will also include representatives from the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI).

The investigation team will be headed by CCPO Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema.

The team will investigate the First Information Report (FIR) that had been lodged on August 28 in Faisal Town police station by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) lawyers.

Meanwhile, PAT leader Raheeq Abbasi has said that his party rejects the probe, stating the no one from the government had approached them regarding the investigation.

“We do not accept the JIT set up by the government,” Abbasi said.

Eleven workers of PAT were killed and over 100 people were injured in the June 17 clash between police and PAT workers.

The killing led to anti-government protests led by PAT chief Tahirul Qadri who also staged a two month long sit-in in Islamabad.

How many "JIT" and "committees" will be formed to probe such incidents? We all know whose responsible, Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, and Rana Sanaullah. A child could tell you that, Pakistan really is hopeless. RIP those who lost their lives in Model Town.

I hope this JIT members will not be PMLN supporters. Ideally, team should be neutral and must not associated with any political parties.

@Truth I wonder what would SS had done if judge Baqir did not find any fault with government? PML-N has not still officially released that report. Did you read that report? After all it is available on line and was not produced by PAT, but rather by commission appointed by SS. What gives?

As stated by PAT spokesman JIT consists two police officials from Punjab not trusted and accepted by them. They should be withdrawn and if necessary could be inducted from other provinces. For how long the matter will be shelved in the drawer after which will be brought out to expose the culprits.

This time probably Govt is sure that they can get the report content in their favor if not they will seal the report and make another JIT ................I wonder what our courts are doing? what happened to the case regarding publishing of Justice Baqar Najafi Report? what happened to investigation against Model town FIR? If our courts were performing their duties sincerely we have avoided all these dharnas and nation doesnot have to go under this mess.

Why ISI and MI included in the JIT? Is this not double standard by the Govt., when Imran Khan asked for inclusion of these two Agencies, it was condemned and rejected by PML N. Govt. do not seem to be serious and pass time, make money and go abroad and enjoy life.

The first report names SS as responsible. Now he has become a party and should leave the office till further investigations. He - as a CM is responsible for this one way or another - he should resign. But sharif brothers along with their supporters ( with vested interests ) Have no shame. SS remains CM to make sure his name is cleared. I really can't imagine anyone would support SS in this unless they're paid or have vested interest and have no morals .
