BAHAWALPUR, Sept 6: Four people have threatened of self-immolation along with their 25 family members in protest against government officials for not helping them in retrieving their share of joint agricultural land from one of their relatives.
Talking to newsmen here on Friday, Shoaib, Nadeem, Fida Hussain and Aziz alleged
that former Wapda SDO Sajjad Haider with the help of his son Iftikhar sold out their share of joint land and was reluctant to pay them Rs6.6 million.
They said that they had no money for the litigation and the government functionaries should take action against the alleged accused who had usurped their rights. They warned that they would self-immolate themselves along with their family members on Oct 5 if the government did not extend any help to us in this respect.
Initially, they said that they would set up their protest camp in front of Sajjad’s shop near Sabzi Mandi on Sept 10.
Later, they would observe a hunger strike on Sept 20 and would march wearing shrouds in the city on Sept 22 if their grievances were not redressed.
After resorting to self-immolation on Oct 5, they said that their remaining family members would proceed to Islamabad to hold a demonstration in front of parliament on Oct 20.
