Poor condition of BHU deplored

Published September 7, 2003

NAWABSHAH, Sept 6: Residents of three union councils — Gupchani, Ismail Brohi and Ghandtar — are suffering due to poor health facilities at the Basic Health Unit, Gupchani.

Villagers complained there were no medicines available for poor patients.

They said there was one doctor who also remained absent, handing over affairs of the BHU to dispensers.

The UC Gupchani was part of Sanghar district and merged in Nawabshah district during local bodies election in 2001. But the BHU is still being run by the Sanghar administration.

Villagers said when they approached the EDO (health) Sanghar, he said the BHU was being merged in Nawabshah soon but nothing had been done so far.

They urged the Sindh health department to resolve the issue to end the suffering of people.

PTCL CABLE DAMAGED: Telephone subscribers here on Friday faced difficulties as the city’s telephonic link with rest of the country was disconnected after optical fibre cable was damaged between Hala and Sekhat.

An official of the PTCL told this correspondent that the damage to the cable was caused by digging at a petrol pump.

He said the PTCL engineers and technicians were carrying out repair work at the spot.

Meantime, the PTCL shifted some of local lines to another system and connected the city with some parts of the country including Karachi and Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, the divisional engineer, phones, Nawabshah, Niaz Chandio, said the customer service centre was providing maximum telecommunication facilities to telephone subscribers.

Talking to a group of journalists, he said the new generator for the centre building had arrived and would be installed soon.
