ISLAMABAD: About 56 cases were registered against the Khateebs of worship places for violating the ban on the use of loudspeakers for delivering speeches during Friday prayers.

A senior police officer said the cases were registered till 9:20pm and complaints against 16 more khateebs had also been lodged. The 16 cases will also be registered soon, he added.

Last Friday, the police booked 77 Khateebs for the violation of the ban.

However, no arrest was made in connection with the cases, he said.

The police had got undertaking from all the Khateebs in the capital city that they would not violate the ban. “The ban aimed at checking the use of loudspeakers for hate speeches against any sect.”

He said five cases each were registered with the Aabpara, Kohsar, Bhara Kahu, Shahzad Town and Koral police, four each with Loi Bher and Sabzi Mandi police, three each with the Margalla, Shalimar, Golra, Nilor and Sihala police, two each with Industrial Area, Tarnol and Secretariat, and one each with Banigala and Ramana police. The 16 complaints were lodged with the Aabpara police.
