HYDERABAD, Sept 6: World Health Organisation representative Domecina has said that the lack of communication between people and organisations is main reason for the failure of Extended Programme of Immunisation implementation.

She was speaking at a meeting held at Shahbaz Hall here on Friday to discuss the vaccination programme. The meeting was attended by social welfare, community development and taluka municipal officers and the representatives of 15 NGOs.

Speaking on the occasion, community development EDO Mohammad Ibrahim Qureshi said that under the EPI, people were to be vaccinated against seven fatal diseases free of cost but claimed that the response from community was not more than 40 percent.

He said that a committee; comprising the representatives of WHO, Unicef, LUMHS, district health and community development departments; had been constituted to get the EPI programme properly implemented.

He said that the incorporation of health education subject in school syllabus, revival of school clinics and establishment of EPI centres at each union council were planned to educate people on health issues.

BISE: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Hyderabad, said on Thursday that a meeting of the disciplinary action committee of the board would be held on Sept 8 and 9 to scrutinize cases of candidates who allegedly adopted copying/unfair means at various examination centres.

The candidates included the higher secondary certificate part-II (class-XII) pre-medical, pre-engineering and general science groups annual examination 2003.
