PESHAWAR, Sept 5: Sikandar Khan of Punjab established a new national record in the 100 meters under-18 butterfly of the 11th National Age Group Swimming Championship which started at the Qayyum Complex Swimming Pool on Friday.

Sikandar covered the distance in 01:04.07 seconds breaking the record established by Kamal Salman Masud who had covered the same distance in 01:04.85 second in Lahore in 1994.

Punjab dominated the first day proceedings followed by Sindh and NWFP in the three-day event.

Sikandar also grabbed first position in the under-18 200 meters freestyle, with the timing of 02:18:73, followed by Syed Usman Javid (Punjab), 02:21.41 seconds; Umesh, (Sindh), 02:52.58; Mohammad Tahir (Sindh), 02:56.93seconds; Khalid Rahim (NWFP), 03:22.54 seconds and Hassan Qureshi (NWFP) with 03:25.11 seconds.
