LAHORE, Sept 5: Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi lashed out at the opposition on Friday for what he said “destabilizing the system through which they entered the house”.

Addressing the MPAs belonging to the ruling coalition at the Governor’s House, he expressed gratitude to President Gen Pervez Musharraf on the behalf of the legislators for restoring democracy and fulfilling his commitment of holding the elections.

Informing the president about the functioning of the Punjab Assembly, the chief minister said 14 government and 13 private bills had been passed in the past 10 months. He also highlighted various steps taken by his government for the development of education, health, agriculture and irrigation sectors.

Earlier, acting Governor Afzal Sahi praised policies initiated by the president. The devolution plan, he said, had been welcomed by the people of the Punjab.

The acting governor said the country’s stature has risen on the international scene thanks to the president’s rational policies.—APP
