LAHORE: The Medical Teachers Association of Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) secretary general Dr Sikandar Hayat Gondal has said a medical institution parallel to the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan will cause irreparable loss to the country’s medical sector.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, Dr Gondal said to ignore CPSC and prefer some other medical college was a conspiracy against doctors community and medical profession.

He said the move if succeeded would confine an internationally recognised institution like the CPSP to local level in a province. He said that CPSC was conducting professional medical examination under a uniform policy throughout the country.

Dr Gondal said the Sindh government’s suggestion had caused serious concern among the doctors’ community and all the medical organisations were united against the move.

He said it was condemnable that some politicians were giving preference to their personal interests over national gains.

“The CPSP was created in 1964 by doctors themselves and it is need of the hour to strengthen this institute so as to secure the future of doctors and to raise standard of medical education in the country”, he said.

Dr Gondal said that an ‘Action Committee’ was being formed to stem the move that would be opposed through launching agitation at every level.
