KARACHI, Sept 5: Asif Ali Zardari, interned husband of former premier Benzair Bhutto, was flown to Lahore on Friday afternoon by a PIA flight.

Mr Zardari, who was brought here two and a half months ago for his production in as many as six cases, was moved to Lahore in connection with the hearing of a drug case against him.

Sources said he would be brought back to the city for his production in the Mir Murtaza Bhutto case on Sept 9.

Mr Zardari, represented by Shahadat Awan advocate, was acquitted in two cases of attempted suicide and a murder case, during his recent stay in Karachi. He was lodged at the Clifton campus of Ziauddin Hospital, which was declared a sub-jail.

HEARING PUT OFF: The district and sessions judge (central), Zafar Ahmed Khan Sherwani on Friday adjourned the hearing of Justice Nizam murder case against Asif Ali Zardari and three others on the request of state counsel, adds PPI.

The state was directed that production of Asif Zardari be ensured on the next hearing on Sept 19.

Special Public Prosecutor Maula Bux Bhatti submitted a notification about his appointment as state counsel in said case, and stated that he had received the notification on Thursday and be given time.

He also moved an application seeking transfer of Asif Zardari to Punjab for hearing of pending cases against him in different courts. He stated that the Sindh home department had been contacted.

The defence counsel opposed the plea and said that Mr. Zardari had been produced after a lapse of two-and-a half years for facing the said trail.

Asif Zardari was produced before the court amid tight security while other co-accused Bilal Sheikh, Javed Akhtar Pirzada and Babar Sindhu, also on bail, also appeared before court.
