DACCA: Khwaja Nazimuddin, President of the Council Muslim League and former Governor-General, died this evening [Oct 22] at his residence at Eskaton Road after a sudden heart attack. He complained of heart trouble at 5pm and within three quarters of an hour breathed his last. Khwaja Nazimuddin retained full consciousness after the attack and recited verses from the Holy Quran till the end came peacefully at 5.45 p.m. Although illness had kept him completely confined to bed since the historic East Pakistan tour of Miss Fatima Jinnah, Khwaja Sahib was exceptionally cheerful today. Evidently feeling a bit better than usual, he went to see Miss Jinnah at the State Guest House at mid-day and in the afternoon had a long discussion with Gen Azam Khan, who called on him at his residence. It was at this time that he complained of heart trouble.

Begum Nazimuddin was by his side when he died. Soon his son, brother Khwaja Shahabuddin and other near relations arrived. He was 72. He is survived by two sons and a daughter. Soon after his death, Miss Jinnah, the Governor of East Pakistan, Abdul Monem Khan, Lt-Gen Azam Khan, Mr Nurul Amin, Mr Khurshid Ahmad, former President of the Azad Government of Jammu and Kashmir, called at his residence to offer condolences.
