WASHINGTON, Sept 4: Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali will meet President George W. Bush at the White House on Oct 1, a few days after an expected meeting between President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Mr Bush.

Announcing the Jamali-Bush meeting, the White House said the leaders would discuss key bilateral, regional and international issues.

The talks would focus on “the close cooperation between the United States and Pakistan in the war against terrorism,” White House press secretary Scott McClellan said.

During his three-day stay in Washington, the prime minister is expected to meet Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Colin Powell and Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

After his three-day official engagements in Washington, Mr Jamali will visit New York and possibly Chicago where he may address the Pakistani community.

Mr Jamali will arrive in the United States a week after President Musharraf who comes to New York on Sept 21 for a three-day visit to the UN General Assembly. President Bush will also be in New York during this period and the two leaders may meet at a reception the US mission to the United Nations will arrange for the visiting dignitaries.
