Defence accord signed with China

KARACHI, Sept 4: A defence assistance protocol between the People’s Liberation Army and the Pakistan Armed Forces was signed on Thursday after a meeting between Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman Gen Mohammad Aziz Khan and People’s Liberation Army’s chief of the general staff Gen Liang Guanglie.

Gen Liang Guanglie, who is also member of the China’s Central Military Commission, arrived here in the lead of an 11-member military delegation on a four-day-long visit.

An ISPR press release stated that the visiting delegates were received by the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman Gen Mohammad Aziz Khan and Corps Commander Lt Gen Tariq Waseem Ghazi at the Corps Officers Mess.

A guard of honour was presented to the distinguished guests.

The chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, and the Chinese Chief of the General Staff, discussed matters relating to defence cooperation.

The Chinese delegation will visit Islamabad besides visiting a PAF base and several of the naval fleet units in Karachi before their departure to China.—APP
