MQM announce decision to separate from Sindh government

KARACHI: The Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) on Sunday night announced their decision to separate from the Sindh provincial government.

The MQM's Rabita Committee held a press conference at Nine-Zero, where the party announced their decision in response to alleged statements made against their leader Altaf Hussain and against Mohajir people by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership.

Speaking at the press conference, MQM leader Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, criticised the PPP and accused them of indulging in the politics of hatred and ethnicity.

"Mohajir Quami Movement became Muttahida Quami Movement after a brutal operation was conducted against us,” said Siddiqui.

“Great patience has been shown on our part,” he said.

He further stated that it was not possible to continue in coalition any longer and that any support for the PPP government would be like supporting "undemocratic forces".

“Again and again language has been used against our leader which we would not tolerate and have only shown patience at the insistence of Altaf Hussain,” Siddiqui said.

“Every MQM worker is furious over the remarks made by Bilawal...There will be no compromise on our leader Altaf Hussain,” he said.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui also spoke out against PPP leader Khursheed Shah and said that the alleged remarks made against Mohajir people were "intolerable”.

During the press conference, Siddiqui also took shots at Bilawal saying that, "Bhutto's heir can only be a Bhutto not a Zardari".

"Bilawal has made politics into a business... what qualities does he have to be the chairman of the PPP?, he asked.

I shall very much appreciate if MQM also announces next earliest possible day, date and time to rejoin the government! How many times MQM had been In and Out of the Government of the Time? If this is not possible, then at least let the general public know whether or not you (MQM) will ever rejoin the Government of PPP in Sindh or elsewhere!

These days MQM's separation from Govt. does not surprise anyone, as this tactic has been used over and over to the extent that it lost its sensation. Surely, people's very first reaction after this news was "They will re-join after a little while" so "No Worries Karachi"

Drama of splitting up and then rejoining still persists.It had been happening during last tenure of the ppp.I call MQM a party of comic relief in the tense political scenerio.I can not help laughing when MQM proclaims a particular decision is taken for the vast advantage of the country.

How we know that MQM would not join ruling party again after 3 months? Is few ministry seats more important than sitting on opposition seats and forcing ruling party to act responsibly. For example forcing ruling party to open many schools for poor children, to open many hospitals to treat poor, sick and elderly, to work towards new business and industries for creating jobs for unemployed. If MQM member parliaments want to be respected in the society, they have to act in interest of general public and earn their paychecks. Time to STOP sucking up to ruling party for few crums. MQM is exploiting the people of Karachi by branding them 'mohajirs'. Please note that only the people who strictly came from India were mohajirs. Current popluation is either the direct decendends of those migrants who came from India or are their grand children. They didn't migrate from anywhere! Why MQM is calling them mohajir, i guess further subdivision of people is a requirement for MQM's existence? While their leader relaxes and lives an easy life in London. A man who had never worked a single 8 hour shift anywhere in the world. O people of Karachi, abandon this useless party where the rule of a single leader prevails no matter what happens. If PPP is an hereditary party then MQM is a 'One leader forever' party. Abandon them both!

MQM should stop this ping pong game. They should go for separate province 14 years back........still stop doing this in out game and work for separate province. Urban parts of Sindh are in urgent need to be separated as administrative unit and this will also benefit the rural Sindh to stand on its own rather become slave to Wadera politics. Mega city like Karachi should be run by someone who lives and understand this city..........not by someone who need help to come out of his bed even in daytime....

What clever stance from MQM siad now they separated, because the election is due. Nawaz went to the UN and US president wasn't having time to meet Nawaz, its means he lost support from USA. Moreover once PTI and PAT continues protest in Islamabad was turned into public speeches and indicated that Nawaz is about to leave. Pakistani Nation should note down and shouldn't support MQM in future, because as mentioned that they are opportunist and they don't care about masses. How come for one or two statement of Bilawal they decided to get saparated from provincial assembly? They know that now Nawaz is going and they have to get support of public by giving counter statement as well as separation from provincial assembly, so in they can save their face in front of the public. wow bili 100 chohey kha k haj pey chal pari.

PTI is denting MQM voter base so much that they need a new way to remain relevant in Pakistan: 1- Asking for a separate province for Karachi to Hyderabad belt is for MQM to be able to rule in such an area; and 2- use that to convince MQM voters to continue voting for MQM as they can be in majority in such a new province. I am dead against making new provinces on language / ethnic / political voter grounds - it is hard enuff keeping 4 provinces happy, imagine how will the federal government keep 6 or 8 or 10 provinces satisfied?
