LAHORE: The Punjab government on Friday constituted a four-member fact-finding committee to probe the mysterious death of Nabiha Chaudhry, a CSS probationer who was found burned to death in her hostel room.

The Punjab additional IG investigations will head the committee which comprises the Lahore DIG (Investigation), Crimes Investigation Agency (CIA) SP and an official from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency.

The official sources said the committee would submit its report within four to five days.

Ghalib Market police handed over the body to the family after autopsy who took the body to Karachi by plane.

A senior police investigator told Dawn that initial autopsy report confirmed 90pc burns on the deceased’s body but exact cause of death was not yet determined. He said some gases were generated in the victim’s hostel room during the fire and some window mirrors also broke because of the gases pressure.

The investigator further said it was also established during the initial autopsy results that the fire was caused by petrol and not because of electrocution.

He said the forensic experts even seized chargers of victim’s two mobiles for analysis, adding two lady attendants, who broke open the door after listing screams and smoke, did not tell about anything substantial.

The investigator said detailed forensic reports on seized mobile phone and computer data, finger prints, diaries and other belongings of Nabiha would take few days.
