India on Friday test-fired a nuclear-capable cruise missile from Balasore in Odisha state, the Times of India (ToI) reported.
The missile, with the name of Nirbhay, has a range of over 700 kilometres, the ToI said, adding that today's test-fire was the second developmental trial of the missile.
The missile's first test was carried out on March 12 last year from the same base but "the flight had to be terminated mid-way, as deviations were observed from its intended course," the ToI quoted an official as saying.
The official added that Nirbhay has good loitering capability, effective control and guidance, high degree of accuracy as well as effective stealth features.

The long range capability Nirbhay is being developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

-- not at all. it was a preplanned test way before any of these recent skirmish. This missile has range more than 1000 km, with alot of space for further improvement.

China got Tom hawk missile from pak which fell off during laden bombing. Later China gave Pakistan mock down version of babar after reverse engineer in 2005.
China imported 10 Long ranger Kh-65SE cruise missiles from Ukrain and russia. They reverse engineered a 4000 KM copy cat version!
India built on its own without any external help. We hope that Nirbhay 2 range can be improved with advanced version of Turbo engine!

Congratulations. Though India testing such missiles have nothing to do with border skirmishes with Pakistan. The development was at a stage where such tests were needed.
At present the global defense scenario is like this that none of top 10 powers have sufficient advantage to defeat any other power amongst them. China, India and Pakistan are all three in that list. So media shouldn't connect this test with anything happening on border. Border skirmishes happen every year before winter sets in.

Actual range is not disclosed by DRDO . But it works around 1500 km according to media . This is normal procedure of testing weapons. No one should be worried about it . India want to more secure and improve defence capabilities towards his rivals like as china , not Pakistan .

Breaching these dams will cause untold damage and flash flooding which will affect the cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The breaching to the Mangala and Tarbela Dams by Indian Nirbhay missiles will be the first and opening salvo during the war with Pakistan.
These will be like the e4 and Nf3 moves in chess.
Within 3 hours there will be colossal loss of life and property in riparian Punjab if these dams are breached in quick succession.

Sir, the test was not at backdrop of border tension with Pakistan or china (as hinted in this report) but it is india's ongoing process of missile development and it was totally pre-planned.
Likewise, India launched navigation satellite a day before which was 3rd in this series & its a ongoing process to make our own navigation system in this region..

The Nirbhay is a sub-sonic cruise missile and gives India the capacity to launch different kinds of payloads at different ranges from various platforms at a very low cost. The missile has a fire-and-forget system that cannot be jammed.
India has had the capability to make ballistic missiles for some time now and has made tactical missiles of different capacity. But it had not mastered a cruise missile yet.
The US had used cruise missiles very effectively during the Gulf War.
The Nirbhay is India's answer to America's Tomahawk and Pakistan's Babur.

Babur is based on the BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missile, after six Tomahawks crash-landed on Pakistani territory in 2001 during US airstrikes on targets in Afghanistan,[6] and its design seems to show this influence. The propulsion system appears to approximate that of BGM-109 Tomahawk according to videos of its launch.

if its made by DRDO, it will cost 10 times the original budget, not follow any particular specification and fall apart when tested, eventually we will find its 99% made from foreign parts and only the name plate was made in india.
There is a history of these kinds of projects from DRDO, and leopards never change their spots.

Why do the pakistani have to believe that everything is being done targeting them. Containing paksitan is no longer our headache, its china.
And indigenour development is a necesssity, because that would free us from more expensive imports, and arm twisting, over issues of trade.
WE have launched our own navigation satellite, and we will have our own system like the GPS of america, and GLonass of russia. The navigation system is required to not only guide the missiles, but also the new generation tanks, and shells from the howitzers.

let me correct the verbal...range is 1000 to 1500 not 700km with nuclear warhead/ multiple traditional warheads. main thing is, it can use Indian own navigational satellite(IRNSS) avoid to jam the missile after launching. missile can travel 20 to 30 meter from sea level and accuracy within 10 to 15 meter (better than tomhawk missile). i proud to working in DRDO.....

By the way, having indigenous weapons, saves India foreign exchange which can be used to import food and reduce inflation. India would have loved to spend less on defense but learnt its lesson in 1962 and in wars with Pakistan. So given that certain weapons are needed anyway in the country's arsenal, better that they be made in India.

India's trade includes sale of high technology IT services, products and also sale of services of launch of Japanese,German and Singaporean satellites.

One thing to say... Maintaining nuclear missiles are too expensive and with the bad economy its too difficult to maintain it for pakistan... Those missiles that pak has the oldest ones which was rejected by the countries which was given to pakistan and they have adopted technically higher variants. Better take care of it as it may get blast in your country itself...
One doubt,,, Countries like US, Russia, China, India has failed in most of the cases in their first attempt. How can pakistan did it on first attempt. First built better "railway engines" of your own instead of begging with china and india....

@Usman Do you know how to read? It wasn't a failure. It was successful, BTW Kh-55 range is 2500km with totally different navigation system based on doppler radar and terrain maps. Where as Nirbhay is around 1000km range with laser gyroscope as navigation and loitering capability which the russian missile does not have. Just because you use Chinese missiles and do a paint job does not mean everyone does the same.
