BAHAWALPUR, Sept 3: The district council adopted a resolution on Wednesday urging the Punjab government to construct Kalabagh dam immediately to meet the water requirements of the country.
The resolution was moved by district Nazim Tariq Cheema, who said the construction of the Kalabagh dam was the need of the hour as it would have good impact on the country’s economy.
Councillor Husain Lodhi suggested the district government to contact the Punjab government with a request for the release of water in the river Sutlej near Bahawalpur.
Sheikh Khurshid Ahmad tabled a resolution demanding end to punishment of students by the teachers in the state-run schools. He claimed that the students remain away from schools fearing punishment.
The council meeting, presided over by convener district Naib Nazim Syed Owais Gardezi, approved 65 development schemes worth Rs20 million which included construction of roads, provision of clean drinking water, pavement of streets with bricks and village electrification.
NADRA OFFICE: The National Database and Registration Authority has extended its network to the tehsil level.
It has opened its offices in four tehsil headquarters of Bahawalpur district to facilitate the masses in getting identity cards.
In addition, 14 National Swift Registration Centres are already functioning in the Multan region, including Bahawalpur.
