PESHAWAR, Dec 20: A two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court on Thursday admitted to full hearing an ehtesab criminal appeal filed by a

former supervisor of Agriculture Engineering Department, Enayatullah Gandapur, challenging his conviction by an accountability court.

The bench, comprising Justice Shahjehan Khan Yousafzai and Justice Ijaz Afzal, also issued notice to the National Accountability Bureau.

The appellant was convicted for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and was sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment along with fine of Rs40 million.

The court had also ordered confiscation of vehicles and money in bank accounts and national saving centres of the appellant.

Counsel of the appellant argued that the trial court overlooked various important points while convicting the appellant.

He added that the entire assets of the appellant were much lesser than what had been claimed by the NAB.

It may be mentioned that the appellant was arrested along with his brother Hidayatullah Gandapur.

Both of them were jointly accused of having assets to the tune of Rs66.20 million. Later on, the plea-bargain of Hidayatullah was accepted and he was released on April 6 after paying a sum of Rs7.5 million to the government.

The appellant decided to stand trial instead of entering into a compromise with the National Accountability Bureau.
