KARACHI, Dec 20: The Karachi City Government will hold elections for its 32 committees, planned to monitor its performance, beginning on Dec 27.

Members of these committees will be the City Council members, who will be elected in in-house elections. All house members will be members of one committee and no one is allowed to be on two committees.

Members of the City Council will have to submit their documents for elections on Dec 22, from 9am to 2pm. The papers will be returned after scrutiny on Dec 26.

Elections will be held on Dec 27 for seven committees which are:

District coordination, human resource management; Civil defence; Agriculture (fisheries), agriculture, livestock, on-farm water management, soil conservation, soil fertility, forest, labour; Community organization and social welfare; Cooperatives and registration office.

Elections for the following committees will be held on Dec 29:

Education primary school, Education secondary schools (boys), Education secondary schools (girls), Technical education, Sports (education) and special education, finance, budget, planning, development and accounts; Public health and basic and rural health.

Elections for the following committees will be held on Dec 31:

Child and Woman Health, Population welfare, District and town hospitals; Information technology development, information technology promotion, Database; Legal advice and drafting; Environment; Literacy campaigns, continuing education, vocational education.

Elections for the following six committees will be held Jan 2: Land revenue and estate; Excise and taxation; Spatial planning, development, district roads and buildings; Energy, micro energy, development, generation, project for use at local community level and transport; Public transport and mass transit, passenger and freight transit terminals, traffic planning, engineering and parking; Industrial estates, technology parks, small and medium sized enterprise promotion, investment promotion and protection.

Elections for the following five committees will be held on Jan 3. All these committees will have eleven members.

Ethics committee; Insaf committee; Sports & culture committee; Account committee; Farm produce market committee.
