HYDERABAD: Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party (STP) on Wednesday held a rally titled ‘Sindh munhji amma’ that started from the district council and ended outside the local press club.

Speaking to the participants, STP acting chairman Jam Abdul Fatah Samejo said that the MQM was not sincere with Urdu-speaking people.

He alleged that MQM chief Altaf Hussain had conspired against this community by talking about the division of Sindh.

STP joint secretary Dr Ahmed Noonari said that Sindhis knew how to protect their motherland.

He said the purpose of this rally was to convey the message of unity to the MQM leader sitting in London.

He said the STP had challenged all such anti-Sindh elements and would keep doing this in future as well because the people of Sindh were sensitive about the integrity of their motherland and would protect it at all costs.

STP vice chairman Altaf Jaskani said Mr Hussain would have to stop his ‘drama’ and Urdu-speaking people should dissociate themselves from him. He urged the Urdu-speaking people to take out rallies in cities against Mr Hussain’s statement.

STP secretary general Hyder Mallah alleged that Gen Zia had created the MQM which was not sincere with Urdu-speaking people.

Dr Hameed Memon alleged that the PPP had laid the foundation of Sindh’s bifurcation by introducing a dual local government system, but it had to withdraw it under pressure of Sindhi people.

Participants in the rally expressed their pledge to protect Sindh’s cultural and geographical boundaries.

Some resolutions were adopted at the rally which included demand that the British government cancel citizenship of Mr Hussain as he had spread hatred among people in peaceful Sindh by talking about its division.

They also demanded that Mr Hussain be expelled from the UK.

They demanded a ban on the MQM and its expulsion from the Sindh government.

Words of two-thirds majority’s constitutional requirement for creating a province should be deleted from the resolution adopted by Sindh assembly against division of Sindh and Governor Ishratul Ibad be removed immediately, the resolutions said, adding that the Sindhi language be declared national language.

Merging for what?

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
