KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday addressed thousands of Karachi supporters eagerly awaiting to see the cricketer-turned-politician who has spent the last month encamped in the capital, demanding the ouster of the prime minister.
"I am thankful to Allah that the nation has awakened. We will never bow before the statue of cruelty," he said.
"We have come to Karachi to unite all communities and to break the shackles of cruelty that has divided the people," Khan added.
By 6pm Sunday evening, Khan had reached the stage set up at the venue opposite the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi, flanked by prominent party members and leaders.
Earlier, Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed and PTI vice president Shah Mehmood Qureshi addressed the participants of the rally. Arif Alvi, Asad Umer and other founding PTI members were also present on stage with the party chairman.
"When people of Karachi take to the streets, then the whole of Pakistan takes to the streets," said Sheikh Rasheed.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said it was time for Nawaz Sharif to go now and said he challenges any member of the sitting cabinet to count the number of supporters who have turned up in Karachi.
The rally venue was packed with PTI supporters, including a large number women and children, who were chanting pro-Imran slogans as well as the popular anti-government slogan, "Go Nawaz, go!"
Khan reached the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi via a chartered plane where he was received by a large number of supporters.
The party chief moved towards the rally venue on Shahrah-e-Quaideen where people had began pouring in after 2pm.

Strict security arrangements have been put in place by the party and a large number of policemen were also deployed at the venue. Walk-in scanner gates were also installed at the entry/exit points of the rally.

A day earlier, Imran addressed his supporters from his contained in Islamabad's D-Chowk and said,“Be ready, my dear people in Karachi. I am coming to address a public gathering in your city, but I will be back in Islamabad tomorrow night so I can participate in the sit-in at D-Chowk.”

The people really want to see a leader, who can unit them on one platform as Pakistanis retaining their own identities as Sindhis, Balochis, Punjabis and Pakhtoons. IK should understand Karachi does not belong to any particular community or set rather it is a real symbol of nationhood and reflection of whole country. So, please be careful specially on talking about sensitive matters, such as creation of new provinces or administrative units, which is not supported by any nationalist leader. The people of Punjab might accept division of Punjab by creating a separate province for Saraiki people, but the people of other provinces, especially Sindhis are never prepared even to discuss the idea of division of their motherland, because Sindh has remained a separate country from ages, even at the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUHM). So, Mr. Khan, Sindh does not start and ends at Karachi, and if you to succeed in the whole country, including Sindh, please be careful and avoid such statements that make you unfavorable choice for Sindhis. If you visit interior Sindh, I am sure you will be accepted as a leader, and may be the only leader, accepted by Sindhis after BHUTTO. Good Luck IK and PTI followers.

PTI is a party of elites and those who are very rich. Jehangeer, Imran, Asad, Shah Mehmood are classic examples. Their accounts are full of money. It is very interesting that these guys are becoming supports of masses. They have no agenda no team. Pervaiz Khatak is their best team who served PPP and PML before. So what can be expect. I think KPK has now become Paris next move is to make Karachi New York. All feudals and capitalist are under the umbrella of PTI. Money can buy some votes but not all votes.

No matter how many votes PTI will get, at the end of the day its Karachi which is the King maker. So without Karachi Dharna can go for a year but nothing will happen and Karachi clearly stand with MQM. Those who voted for PTI have a permanent address in Punjab and KPK. So let them be enemy of Karachi.

So far I've been saying IK is a leader not a politician. But London meeting proves me wrong. He definitely has become a national leader for sure but an improved politician too. If this was all calculated -- my God what a calculated step he took . I don't think even he was expecting this kind of a response. If he was a failed politician before ---- this has turned him into a National Leader

I was at the Jalsa. It was amazing! People of all ethnicities, all social classes standing together for a brighter Pakistan.
Surprisingly, the men were really respectful to all the women present. No sleaziness seen at all!

Democracy on a fast track my friend. IK was a no one before Zardari. Then the likes of him and his PMs ruined PPP gave IK a little push and the remainder -- last year and a half of sharif brothers. This is what democracy is. Cleansing nation from corrupt politicians. More power to people. IK is a leader now. Full credit to Zardaris 5 years and now sharif brothers.

I was at the rally, but I'm not a PTI voter. The crowd was pretty low, probably 10,000 - 15,000 no more than that, and those claiming 100,000 are living in fools paradise. I agree with an earlier comment, Karachi is a city of 20 million people, and if you can only generate 10-15,000 people, that's really horrible. Even civic organizations and unions can do that. PTI needs to realize that urban Sindh is MQM turf and rural Sindh is totally owned by PPP. PTI should concentrate on Punjab and KPK.

IK is in Karachi with MQM's permission and support. Backed by MUSH, MQM + IK + TUQ is what defines "Naya Pakistan". Their sole purpose: to get rid of NS and help save MUSH's neck.

PTI has given lots of hope to many Pakistani citizens. About 90% of Pakistanis are struggling to make a descent living. Disparity of wealth and opportunities is clearly visible, 10% controlling money, making more money and of course holding political scenne and high positions. There are two key reasons for it: ONE: crooks can commit crime and get away with it without punishment. TWO: There is high illeteracy (many cannot read or write), leading to unskilled work force not fit to become productive in a meaningful ways, which in turn shuts the door for them for economic uplift in their life. Both of these weaknesses in society suits perfectly well for clever politicians. That they cover for each other regardless of party affiliation (crroks become good friends), also that many of illerate, uneducated masses unaware of their democratic rights buy into gimmicks and slogans, keep voting for same politicians over and over again. Thus an OVERHAUL (big change) is the only way forward to bring Pakistan on productive & progressive path.

Who accepts it? All those who are either disputing the figures as to how many attended Imran jalsa in Karachi last evening are asked by me that they instead of criticizing and or under mining the efforts of Imran should host such like organized evening duly punctuated with patriotic songs and fireworks in Karachi with even 100 men, women and children if they can but if not then they should acknowledge from the core of their heart that Imran is the only and real crowd puller and not otherwise. I have read such like comments at different sites under different captions and I wonder how many have been to jalsa to quote the figures and even if someone was there then my question is how could he or she count the number of attendees which could not be counted from any angle in any case? It is neither difficult nor cumbersome to pull legs of others but it not that easy to stand on your own legs to be honest. Who takes the initiative to prove himself or herself as a crowd puller? Bad move by Imran. Karachi support will not do anything becau it doesnt affect Sharifs. It will only cause more animosity with MQM supporters. Imran has to understand that it has to deal with PML N and PPP. And he cant be successful if he doesnt show flexibility with the lesser enemies and unite with MQM, JI and other smaller parties. He must accept that MQM has been raising the same slogans for decades which PTI is now doing.So far I see Imran failing in this current movement due to Imran's stubbornness.

How much funds + aids + grants etc. had been given to Punjab during the tenure of both brothers? How much % wise Punjab has progressed during their term? Amazing. No camera angle was able to cover the full (not even half) dimensions of the crowd, the Sindh Police estimated the crowd over 100,000, independent sources estimated it over 150,000. Yet some 'visionary intellectuals' here are claiming numbers like 5,000, 1,000 and 15,000. Really funny and even more absurd. It took me nearly 30 minutes just to exit the jalsa-gaah and once I was outside the arena, a really large crowd was still waiting outside to enter the jalsa-gaah, that's how big it was.
