BANNU: A displaced woman from North Waziristan died and three members of her family suffered injuries after unidentified attackers opened fire on their vehicle in Janihkel area of Bannu district on Friday.

The family, which belongs to Eidak area of North Waziristan, was targeted in Malikhel area of Hindikhel union council. The firing left Jamila Bibi dead and Lal Saeed, Shoaibullah and Zartaja injured. The injured and the body were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, Bannu.

The police later conducted a search operation in the area.

However, no arrest was made by the night.

SANITATION CAMPAIGN: A weeklong special campaign has been launched in Bannu city to help the municipal administration improve the local sanitation system, whom the huge influx of displaced persons has adversely affected.

The SABAWON, a nongovernmental organisation, organised the ‘Safe and Healthy Pakistan’ campaign with the financial assistance of the Unicef.

Thousands of internally displaced people have migrated to Bannu, Karak, Tank and Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to the Zarb-i-Azb military operation against foreign and local militants in North Waziristan.

Besides Sabawon and Unicef, the SRSP and TMA Bannu are also partners in the campaign, which will continue until September 24. The campaign was aimed at assisting the municipal administration of Bannu to address civic issues, especially those related to sanitation, and create public awareness of safe sanitation practices.

Sessions and walks on hygiene will be organised in Bannu city and Kakikhas area, while roads, streets and sewers will be cleaned. —Correspondent
