LAHORE, Aug 30: A magnificent century by opener Abid Ali enabled Lahore to pile up 229 for six in first innings on first day of their Inter-region Under-19 cricket tournament match against Rawalpindi at the LCCA Ground on Saturday.

Abid struck a knock of 232-ball 115 laced with 10 fours and a six as Lahore finished the day at satisfactory position on first day which had been restricted to 73.1 overs due to wet pitch in the morning.

Salman Akbar also made a prominent contribution of 41. He smashed five boundaries and faced exact 100 balls.

Skipper Zulqarnain Haider (3) with Azhar Ali (1) will resume the Lahore’s innings on Sunday.

Left-arm-medium pacer Omar Khaliq harvested a haul of four for 56. But he failed to prevent Lahore from laying a strong foundation for an imposing total.

Summarised scores: Lahore vs Rawalpindi at LCCA Ground.

LAHORE (1st innings): 229 for six (Abid Ali 115, Salman Akbar 41, Shahzad Siddique 18, Atif Ijaz 17; Omar Khaliq 4-56).
