TIMERGARA: Several students were injured when two groups clashed at Government Postgraduate College Timergara on Monday.

According to police, the clash erupted between the activists of Peoples Students Federation (PSF) and Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT) that left several students injured.

They said that workers of PSF staged a protest demonstration against IJT outside the college for beating members of their organisation at Government Technical College Timergara. The workers of IJT also took out a procession and activists of both the organisations exchanged harsh words, they added.

Police said that after exchange of harsh words, participants of both the rallies began to beat each other with fists, kicks, sticks and stones.

Eyewitnesses said the students stopped quarrelling and dispersed when unidentified people fired shots in the air.

Balambat police registered a case against seven students identified as Alamzeb, Fazl Hussain, Amjad Khan, Bilal Khan, Shoaib, Arshad and Sohail Nawab.

Meanwhile, a nine grade student identified as Salman committed suicide in Bajauro Talash village on Sunday night.

Awal Khan, the father of the student, told police his son committed suicide by hanging himself in his bedroom. Talash police handed over the body to the relatives after conducting postmortem.

JIRGA: Dir Qaumi Jirga on Monday threatened to stage a sit-in against the provincial government for imposing tax on sale of sand and gravel of the riverbanks.

The iirga members including PPP leader Mehmood Zeb Khan, Mohammad Rasool Khan of JI, Malik Farooq Iqbal of PML-N, Malik Rahatullah of PTI, Abdul Hakim Khan of ANP and Dr Sardar Hamid said that Lower Dir was one of the tax-free districts of Malakand division.

They said that the district was affected by militancy and flash floods in recent past.

They said that floods in 2010 had washed away valuable agricultural lands on the bank of the Panjkora River but the farmers had not been compensated so far.

The jirga elders said that government levied tax on sale of sand and gravel for which Sept 17 was fixed for tenders. They said that the jirga would bring people on the roads against the decision of the government.

They demanded of the government to withdraw tax on sale of sand and gravel. They threatened to stage protest if the decision was not reversed.

PML-N: The local chapter of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has said that it will organise protest rallies against the sit-ins staged by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek in Islamabad.

Talking to local journalists at Timergara Press Club, PML-N district general secretary Sardar Javed said that they had decided to stage rallies at tehsil level from Sept 13 against the sit-ins in Islamabad. He said that different committees were formed for the purpose.

Meanwhile, PML-N provincial vice president Malik Jehanzeb Khan has said that the PTI-led provincial government failed to deliver. He said that PTI wanted to get rid of its provincial government.

He said that PTI and PAT organised musical shows in Islamabad to gather people. He said that last year Rs87 billion were lapsed owing to inability of the provincial government.

The PML-N leader said that president of China postponed his visit to Pakistan owing to sit-ins in Islamabad. He said both Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadari were part of a conspiracy against the federal government.
