Victories for Majid, Safeer

ISLAMABAD, Aug 29: Farrukh Zaman, Majid Khan, Safeerullah Khan and Khayal Muhammad scored victories while Yasir Butt got bye on the second day of National League-cum-Trials at Roshan Khan Squash Complex on Friday.

This second leg of the National League, with the first stage already held in Peshawar, will serve as the trials to select a four-member Pakistan squad for the World Team Squash Championship, to be played at Vienna (Austria) in October.

Up to nine players are vying to win tickets to Vienna for the three available berths for the World Team Championship as world no.18 and Pakistan No.1 Mansoor Zaman is exempt from trials. Pakistan no.2 and world no.35, Shahid Zaman, has been missing from the trials.

Friday’s results:

Farrukh Zaman bt Arshad Iqbal Burki 15- 16, 7-15, 15-6, 15-8, 17-16; Majid Khan bt Zubair Ali 15-13, 15-6, 15-8; Safeerullah Khan bt Saeed Hassan 5-11, 15-10, 15-13. Arshad Iqbal Burki bt Zubair Ali 3-1; Yasir Butt bt 3-1.

Thursday results: Farrukh Zaman bt Naveed Atlas 3-1; Majid Khan bt Yasir Butt 3-2, Khayal Muhammad bt Arshad Iqbal Burki 3-1; Zubair Ali Khan bt Saeed Hassan 3-1; Safeerullah Khan walk over Shahid Zaman.—APP
