KASUR, July 23: On the order of District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Ahsan Ahmad, a case has been registered against four police officials including an ASI on charges of torturing two persons at Mandi Usman Wala.

Police said ASI Qurban Ali and constables Abdul Rasheed, Mohammad Latif and Mohammad Afzal of Khudian Police Station had gone to the house of Niamat Ali and forcibly taken his father-in-law Waris Ali and son Mohammad Yasin to the police post at Usman Wala, where the policemen subjected them to physical torture and secured Rs3,000 for their release.

The accused are still at large.

DACOITY: Eight armed men looted cash and cattleheads from a house at Jajal Illahabad.

Police said Zulfiqar Ali and seven of his accomplices forced their way into the house of Abdul Aziz, held the inmates hostage at gun-point and took away Rs50,000 in cash besides two cows.

Abdul Aziz went to the Illahabad Police Station for registration of the case, but the police refused to entertain his request. He approached the district public safety commission, who ordered registration of a dacoity case against the accused.

WATER THEFT: The SDO for irrigation in Mustafabad got 98 farmers booked on charges of stealing canal water. The farmers were caught stealing water in raids on Mustafabad, Dafto and Khara villages.

According to the irrigation department, the thieves had not been arrested previously due to interference of some locally influential people.
