LAHORE, July 23: The Punjab PPP executive at a meeting here on Wednesday discussed the possibility of launching a train march to celebrate the independence of the country, establish direct contact with the masses and highlight the implications of the Legal Framework Order.
The idea of train march had been forwarded to Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and dates would be decided after her approval and in coordination with party leaders from other provinces. The executive committee met under the chairmanship of Mr Qasim Zia. Naveed Chaudhry announced the decisions in the presence of Abdul Qadir Shaheen, Raja Zulqurnain and others.
The meeting was of the view that the government had not prepared the country to meet the challenges of the WTO. Disputing the commerce minister’s claims in this regard, the participants said that Pakistan’s products would not be competitive in the world market if the government failed to take steps to bring down the production costs.
The participants criticized the Punjab chief minister for the handling of no-trust motions against Nazims of various tiers. Those switching loyalties were absolved of all charges, they alleged.
According to Naveed Chaudhry, the PLF had been directed to look into the matter and see how the chief minister could be prevented from misusing his powers. The matter could be taken to court for relief, he said. Raja Zulqurnain would head the committee which would examine the issue from all aspects.
It was demanded that Ms Bhutto should be allowed to return home and all cases against Mr Zardari should be withdrawn.
Answering a question, Naveed Chaudhry said that reports of grouping in the party were nothing but disinformation spread by the government for its vested interests. A section of the press reported on Wednesday that the Punjab organization was divided in Jehangir Badr and Qasim Zia groups.
The party, Naveed Chaudhry said, was fully united and all reports to the contrary were baseless.
