MULTAN: Another batch of 60 policemen on Thursday completed their 30-day field craft and weapon training course to be able to tactically counter criminals in field operations like professional commandoes.

A smartly turned-out contingent of 60 policemen presented salute to SSP (Operation) Muhammad Saleem in the passing-out parade held at district police lines.

The commando training initiative was ordered by the Punjab IGP under which different batches of policemen were getting modern training on field operations against criminals and utilisation of different weapons and gadgets.

The SSP (Operations) said better strategy and planning, complete awareness of ground realities, and application of modern weapons, technology in operations and investigations could help reduce crimes.

He also distributed prizes among best performers and commended the instructors including Sub-Inspector Mubashir and Head Constable Muhammad Iqbal.

The policemen were given training on the pattern of Elite Force and they can perform their best in any challenging situation, he added.

SP (Cantonment) Mehmoodul Hassan, SP (Headquarters) Asif Ahmad, DSP HQ Muhammad Javed, Reserve Inspector Muhammad Islam, and PRO Zubair Bangash were also present.

CANAL LINING: The Punjab government has released Rs20 million to initiate concrete lining of four canals in Multan division.

XEN (Operation) Chaudhry Muhammad Zahid told APP that four canals of Multan division selected for concrete lining included Hamidpur Minor, Rana Minor, Faizpur and Wali Muhammad canals.

He said Rs5 million had been earmarked for each canal at initial stage, and the tenders would be opened within a month.

The estimated cost of lining of these canals is Rs44.57 million for (Hamidpur Minor), Rs73.14 million for (Rana Minor), Rs72.60 million for (Faizpur), and Rs52 million for (Wali Muhammad canal).

The work would be completed within the next six months under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), said the official. —APP
