KARACHI, July 23: In order to train the teachers of government schools, the city government will soon sign an agreement with the Children Resource International (CRI), a non- governmental organization.

Under the agreement, the NGO will provide equipment to train teachers and to improve the environment at schools.

The country director of CRI, Ms Muniza Akbar Aziz called on the city nazim, Mr Naimatullah Khan the other day. She informed him about the work being done by the NGO in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Karachi to raise the standard of schools.

She expressed her desire to further upgrade schools and to motivate children towards education in collaboration with the city government. She said that the CRI was striving to convert the city schools into the leading institutes of the country.

Praising the efforts of her organization, the city nazim assured that the city government would make all the arrangements for the training programme and would provide maximum facilities in this regard.

Meanwhile, the country director of CRI gave briefing on the project to the provincial minister for women development, Dr Saeeda Malik, in her office on Wednesday.

The minister assured her that the government would fully co- ordinate with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), who was extending financial assistance to the CRI project for imparting training to principals, education officials and primary teachers of government schools.

The CRI country director apprised the minister of her organization, which had imparted training to about 1,400 teachers, principals and education officials under the project so far.—APP/PPI
