Invented by Pakistanis

THIS is regarding the cover story “Invented by Pakistanis” compiled by Ambreen Arshad (YW, August 16, 2014). It was a fabulous article with lots of information about inventions from our part of the world.

We should be proud of our country as we have great physicists, scientists and thinkers in our land. Overall the issue was really amazing and full of information.

I WAIT eagerly for every Saturday to read my favourite magazine Young World. And when I saw the issue of August 16, 2014, I was happily surprised. It was full of information and the article “Invented by Pakistanis” compiled by Ambreen Arshad was awesome!

We read so much bad things written about our dear land, but this article really made me proud. We should turn to the examples of great people like economist Mahbub ul Haq, Dr Ommaya, Dr Abdus Salam, etc., by following their footsteps to success. Apart from that, we have the great Indus valley civilisation, Harappa, and so many other historical places that are unique across the world so there is so much to be proud of.

In addition, I would like to appreciate the articles “If Pakistan could speak” by Urooj Fatima and “The real spirit of freedom” by Parvez Jamil in the same issue. The articles were worth reading and I would like to request all the readers to read these articles and behave as proud Pakistanis.

I AM thankful to Young World for bringing out such a patriotic and inspirational issue on August 16, 2014. Right now when things in our country look so dismal and everywhere there is news of chaos and corruption, thanks to YW we got to read something that made us feel proud of our country and realised that there have been many noble and noteworthy Pakistanis.

One of the reasons many youngsters today don’t love Pakistan as much as their forefathers did and want to go abroad is that they are not nurtured to love Pakistan. They are only made to see and hear about the ills and problems in the country, so they develop a negative image of their homeland.

It is my request to YW and all forms of media to please stop focusing on the problems and bad news only just because it grabs more attention; it also leaves the readers and viewers with a bad feeling.

This issue was one of the best issues of Young World and one of the most readable of newspapers in a while because all others are just full of the same demotivational things with just different bylines.
