KARACHI, July 21: Eastern Federal Union (EFU) mustered 99 Victory Points (VPs) to clinch the weekly title of the Swiss Movement Bridge at Aslam Bridge Hall on Sunday.

EFU having the services of Mazhar Ali Khan, Hasan Sajjad, A.K.Bhurgri and Mustafa Saif they notched-up four wins to emerge winner.

When the play resumed for the day, EFU first outplayed PSO 24-06, then lost to Pakistan’s ladies team Horizon 14-16. However, they kept their winning form thereafter and won other three matches from Sprinter 17-13, Arzoo 23-7 and finally against Aces 21-09.

Pakistan’s ladies team Horizon comprising Qudsia Dossa, Zeenat Azwer, Rubina Agha and Roshan Bokhari were seen in great form as they won first four matches from Dynamo 24-6, EFU 16-14, Aces 18-12 and Four Bidders 23-7. But Raees IV marred their smooth run winning 21-9. Horizon had to be contend for the second berth with a score of 90 VPs.

Raees scored 85 for the third spot. Competing with two pairs, Raees- Amin Hakeem, A. Hameed and Azher, they defeated Maq 17-13.

Swim 25-5 and Horizon 21-9, losing two matches to Attackers 11-19 and Aces 11-19 VPs.

Twenty-eight pairs competed the pairs event. They were placed in two houses. In Red House, Candyland’s pair of Hamid and Ziaullah Baig came at the top with 60.75%.

Jawad Abedi-Dr.Sarfraz and Dr.llyas-Amin Hakeem occupied second and third berths with a score of 60 and 57 percent respectively.

In the other house, veteran pair of M.G Siddiqui-S.P Jamal topped with the 60 percent score followed by Nasir Ahmed-Shahab Saeed and Rehana Saigol and Saima Rashid. They scored 57.22 and 56.11% respectively.

The Karachi Bridge Association will hold 8th Aslam Memorial Bridge tournament from July 26 at the Aslam Bridge Hall, National Stadium.

The first round out of proposed three on the opening day will start at 4.00 p.m. and last rounds will be played on Sunday at 2.00 p.m. Entry fee is Rs 1,000/- for up to six players.

It would be the last warm-up tournament for the national team to prepare for the major show 12th BFAME Zonal Bridge Championship that will begin at Amman, Jordan from Aug 1.—Agencies
