HARIPUR, July 21: The Tehsil Municipal Administration’s failure to take action against encroachers in Rehri Market has neutralized the move aimed at clearing the main bazaar from illegal structures, shows a survey.

According to the Local Government Ordinance 2000, the TMA is empowered to remove encroachments in the city.

But, a visit to the market shows that the TMA has not taken any action in this regard.

Rehri Market was established on the site of the old bus stand after the terminal was shifted to new premises in 1992.

Over 60 pushcart owners were allotted plots in the market on nominal rent to clear the main bazaar of carts. But the owners in connivance with the TMA staff continued to keep their carts there and rented out the plots on higher rates, sources said.
