Probe into PIA incident demanded

ISLAMABAD, July 21: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has demanded a complete probe into the Sunday’s incident at Islamabad airport in which a PIA aircraft escaped a major disaster.

The PPP information secretary, Taj Haider, in a statement issued here on Monday, said the policy of laying off professionals and compromising safety standards were disastrous policies.

The service and technical standards at the PIA are continuously deteriorating and have reached a level where there are complaints that even safety standards are being compromised, he added.

“The decay set when the airline began sacking anyone reaching the age of 57 under its golden handshake policy and sent home 3,000 of its senior and experienced professionals,” Mr Haider said.
