RAWALPINDI, Dec 19: A driver and a fireman were wounded when a goods train was derailed near Taxila on Wednesday, railway authorities said. The authorities also ruled out the possibility of sabotage.

Owing to the derailment, rail traffic remained suspended for more than two and a half hours.

“A Lahore-bound passenger train was delayed for more than two hours due to the accident,” a railway official said.

According to railway authorities, three bogies and engine of a goods train, bound for Hawailian, were derailed near Taxila at 17.25 pm.

Wazir Ahmed, the engine driver, and Shah Hussain, the fireman, received injuries when they jumped out of derailing train, the official said.

Later, the injured were removed to a local hospital from where they were discharged after the first aid, the authorities said.

A senior official of Pakistan Railways told Dawn that the cause of the accident would be known after the investigations are completed.
