LAHORE, July 20: A police constable was killed and an alleged proclaimed offender suffered injuries in an “encounter” at Mahmoodbooti in Baghbanpura on Sunday.
The police claimed they raided a house to arrest two proclaimed offenders, Sharafat Ali and Asif Ali, both brothers. They alleged the wanted men opened fire at the police party which had to retaliate in self-defence.
The 15-minute crossfire resulted in injuries to constable Zulfikar Ali, 32, and one of the POs, Sharafat. They were rushed to a nearby hospital where the constable died after first aid dressing while the PO was stated to be in critical condition.
The police later arrested the other PO and his father Saif Ali and registered a case against them.
Zulfikar’s body was first taken to the city mortuary for autopsy and later to the district police lines where his funeral prayers were held.
The police command on behalf of Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi announced Rs 500,000 for the bereaved family of the constable. He belonged to Sangla Hill. He has left behind a widow and three children.
MURDER: A man was stabbed to death allegedly by his brother-in-law over a property dispute on Bediaan Road in South Cantonment on Sunday.
Khalid, 35, a father of two, went to the poultry shop of his brother-in-law Muhammad Latif. They traded argument over the property issue.
Latif allegedly stabbed Khalid and escaped. The injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died. A case was registered with no arrest and the body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy.
A factory worker was killed allegedly by his colleague, security guard, on Multan Road in Chuhng.
Khalid had a verbal clash with Rasheed over a petty issue. The latter allegedly beat him up with the butts of his rifle. Khalid suffered serious injuries and died in a nearby hospital. The guard was caught by the factory workers and handed over to the police. — Reporter
