RIYADH: Saudi men have been prohibited from marrying women from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Chad and Myanmar, says a report in Makkah daily quoting Makkah Police Director Maj Gen Assaf Al-Qurashi.

According to unofficial figures, there are about 500,000 women from these four countries currently residing in the kingdom.

In a move apparently aimed at discouraging Saudi men from marrying foreigners, additional formalities have been placed before issuing the permission for marriage with foreigners. Saudi men wishing to marry foreigners now face tougher regulations.

Those wanting to marry foreign women should first obtain the consent of the government and submit marriage applications through official channels, Maj Gen Qurashi was quoted as saying.

The official said applicants should be over 25 and attach identification documents signed by the local district mayor as well as all other identity papers, including a copy of his family card. “If the applicant is already married, he should attach a report from a hospital proving that his wife is either disabled, suffering from a chronic disease or is sterile,” he said.

Maj Gen Qurashi said divorced men would not be allowed to apply within six months of their divorce.

A big slap on those faces who say use the term Islami Biradar Moomalik!!!

ahmed Aug 06, 2014 09:40am

Just me that finds this a little racist?

salman cheema Aug 06, 2014 10:35am

Good move by Saudi govt. Pakistani women are way more intelligent, beautiful and better than Saudi women, Their are afraid of our intelligence. . Its is the first truth that came fro the KSA.

Kaiser Waziri Aug 06, 2014 10:37am

Now which woman in her right mind would want to marry a Saudi?

Nero Aug 06, 2014 10:40am

I wish tougher laws could be implemented regarding marriage specially 2nd, 3rd, 4th marriages, in Pakistan also. At the moment we are the most free country, regarding anything, in the world. We can easily get away with murder also on our free land!

BlackHat Aug 06, 2014 10:41am

Proof Arab discrimination against fellow Arabs.

Aleem Aug 06, 2014 10:50am

actually,,.. thank you Mr. saudia..Our women need protection from your abusive men.

Husain Jan Aug 06, 2014 10:54am

@Pakistani Muslim Saudis will continue to be termed as "friendly Islamic Country" till such time and as long as our rulers continue to get aid and gifts of petrodollars. Marriage ban or even ban on Hajj /Umrah will not make our rulers change their mindset because only thing that matters for our rulers is gifts and other favours. Understand dear ?

ayesha Aug 06, 2014 10:56am

As if paki women are interested in marying them anyway.

mystic Aug 06, 2014 10:57am

Who in their right minds would want to marry Saudi men anyways?

Najma Aug 06, 2014 10:58am

good. Pakistani women are inferior in race anyways.

Lahore Aug 06, 2014 10:59am

Mabrook to Pak women they are safe now :)

faisal Aug 06, 2014 11:02am

thank god I wish Pakistan should not allow that

ramesh Aug 06, 2014 11:07am

So called ummah.ther r many people in Pakistan that say they r Arabs no Asian. A slap on these people.

mimi sur Aug 06, 2014 11:11am

Indeed a very good step by authority . It helps in two manner . Entry of illegal wives into country and tough idea for opportunist ladies to settle there .

Jashanpreet Aug 06, 2014 11:14am

Pakistani's should realize that they can never become the thekedars of Muslim world or Arab too as the Arab clearly treat them as second class muslims.

jj Aug 06, 2014 11:43am

@ayesha Grapes are sour

Shamsher Aug 06, 2014 11:48am

@salman cheema Yes, grapes are sour.

Insan Aug 06, 2014 11:48am

If they don't impose these kind of rules then their women would remain unmarried

Awan Aug 06, 2014 11:51am

Pakistani women dont want to marry Saudi men as well but it is Pretty racist to say the least that Saudis are not allowing the women of 4 countries not marry their citizen. This is a sheer discrimination and nothing else.

vinay Aug 06, 2014 11:53am

are not they same Saudis & Arabians whom Pakistanis search their ancestry rather than accepting they are same race as Indians?

Whatashame Aug 06, 2014 11:54am

Let me ask you this,Why do you think,Saudi men marry Pakistani women? Their FIRST choice is always Saudi women,But they like to PLAY around and want it Legal and Halal too,so Here come the Pakistani women, they Dream of living in Castles with slaves,Guess what you are in for a surprise, YOU ARE THE SLAVE!

Ravi Dallas Tx Aug 06, 2014 11:56am

Curious to know what is their reasoning behind this decision?

kumar Aug 06, 2014 12:02pm

very bad one by one Pakistanis is loosing the list of goods they can export. Sorry your material is found substandard.

uxman Masood Aug 06, 2014 12:26pm

Our women are more beautiful than Saudi women , we are happy and we do not want them to marry Saudi abusive guys , those who even torture and beat their little kids ,well said Aleem , we want our women to live happily

Shah Aug 06, 2014 12:28pm

Who in their right mind would like to marry a Saudi and live like a woman-slave for the rest of the life anyway!!

Qadir Khan Aug 06, 2014 12:28pm

Whatever, who want to marry Arabs either..........!

Parvez Aug 06, 2014 12:31pm

.......may be, its a good thing.

the truth Aug 06, 2014 12:42pm

Is this in accordance to the sharia law !

Masoud Aug 06, 2014 12:48pm

This order is against Islamic teaching. Islam do not prohibit such marriages between Muslims.

SK Aug 06, 2014 12:55pm

@BlackHat which planet are you living on.....Pakistanis are not Arabs....the way Pakistani's are treated in Arab world is known to all...this propaganda of Ummah is just that nothing UK Pakistanis try to dress like Arabs, especially women, when in reality Pakistani culture and dresses are completely different. Just get real and be yourself

Ravi Aug 06, 2014 12:57pm

Pakistani's Arab ancestry is now proven

Dr. Sadaf Aug 06, 2014 12:58pm

@Kaiser Waziri , I absolutely agree with you and why would they want to live a life of bondage in that country.

Farooq Ali Aug 06, 2014 01:00pm

What about Iranian women, are they more attractive ? so exempted, . Orders like this make our Islamic community a laughing stock.

Shahzad Aug 06, 2014 01:02pm

@Kaiser Waziri bro, this sounds racist.

Murad Aug 06, 2014 01:02pm

The Saudi government has repeatedly surprised me . every time I think nothing can be more stupid, they come up with something that just leaves me awestruck.

jitendra Aug 06, 2014 01:05pm

So what about the theory where most Pakistani proudly believe that they descended from Arabs or Mughals were their ancestors. Same distorted history heroically praising Mughals is being taught to students in most of the PAK schools. When would they accept the ground reality that their ancestor were not Arab Muslims in fact they were from same ancient sanskritik civilisation which was once known as Bharatvarsha inhabited by Aryavratas spread all over from Afghanistan (Gandhar earlier) to Indonesia,Malaysia.

Sajid Aug 06, 2014 01:05pm

One can expect such kind of genius from the Saudis. To be born at a place with a lot of material riches but no intellect is itself a curse.

MN Aug 06, 2014 01:06pm

Shame on you.

Awaz Aug 06, 2014 01:10pm

If they don't impose these rules then their women will remain unmarried

Yo Yo Singh Aug 06, 2014 01:14pm

Pakistani women are Arab don't they know that? Even a kid in pakistan knows that. Pakistani history books should be allowed in Soudi Arabia.

shaw Aug 06, 2014 01:15pm

racism and discrimination in Islamic world, is nothing new, why you all seem surprised and upset?

we are as racist as the westerns, we don't advertise it as much, that's all !!!

asjad Aug 06, 2014 01:16pm

Pakistani women are far better than these good-for-nothing Saudis. But before we hurl squalor of scum onto them we should know what is the reason? If its racism then we might retaliate in a very logical manner substantiating our argumentative superiority over them. However, Saudis are not creative at all except being extravagant in the use of purchased intelligence.

Realist Aug 06, 2014 01:16pm

Good riddance for Pakistani Women !

Its much better to rule a poor Pakistani Man, than being slave of a rich abusive Saudi.

Babar Aug 06, 2014 01:20pm

@Ravi then???? why Pakistanis should be worried about this?? Are Arabs superior??

Intesar Aug 06, 2014 01:20pm

@BlackHat Pakistanis are not Arabs and will never be Arabs (thankfully!!). Get that into your head.

gerry d'cunha Aug 06, 2014 01:20pm

a big slap on the face of those who say 'muslaman sub bhai bhai hai'

Rashid Ishaq Aug 06, 2014 01:21pm

i lived in Gulf for many years; only reason I think behind this move is that Pakistani women do not live like slaves there comparing to Hyderabadi Women (Indian) who mostly get married to Gulf and Saudi Nationals

Shazia Bangash Aug 06, 2014 01:23pm

@BlackHat Pakistanis are not Arabs Ignoramus.

Babar Aug 06, 2014 01:24pm

@salman cheema I don't think so as I am living in Middle East for years

abdul manan Aug 06, 2014 01:24pm

@salman cheema it's your frustration!

Mohammad Iqbal Aug 06, 2014 01:25pm

Saudis are not a proper match for our graceful pakistani woman who have centuries of nice traditions.

Babar Aug 06, 2014 01:25pm

@Pakistani Muslim Please also mention who should we call biradar besides Arabs?

Mohammad Ali khan Aug 06, 2014 01:25pm

What is the status of the children from these international marriages?

Are the offsprings get discriminated?

AL Aug 06, 2014 01:26pm

Then this rule should be for the women of Saudi Arabia, that they can not get married with men of these three states.

abdul manan Aug 06, 2014 01:27pm

good decision!because mostly young women from these states want Foreign Nationality Holder and their own state large amount of male community can not afford marriage due to these kind of facts.

Babar Aug 06, 2014 01:27pm

@Nero Statistics shows that there are more girls and less boys in world population where these extra women should go?

Babar Aug 06, 2014 01:28pm

@Aleem What about your own men?

Fahad zafar khan Aug 06, 2014 01:28pm

Pakistanis are not Indians , Arabs , Afghanis etc . Pakistan is a home to many cultures , I am from Pakistan and proud of my identity . Here few people say Pakistanis are Indians , India is a nationality not a race etc . In India also so many cultures like Pakistan. If saudi man not allowed to marry Pakistani woman etc who cares. Every country is free to make rules. We Pakistanis are more educated and smart than arabs in many fields.

MA Saeed Aug 06, 2014 01:30pm

I think this move is aimed at discouraging the trade of underage women under the pretense of marriage. Thousands, if not hundreds of thousands young foreign women are sold to wealthy Middle Eastern men, who marry them for a few months. The six month divorce rule will also discourage fake repeat marriages.

Babar Aug 06, 2014 01:33pm

@jitendra then????

Kranti Aug 06, 2014 01:36pm

Nice move from Saudi government. Really nice move to halt illegal marriages and improves the fidelity of males in Saudi. Atleast now they will be human towards their woman. Very good will be done for Saudi Woman from now.

Matt Aug 06, 2014 01:38pm

Saudis are becoming too arrogant!

Ali Aug 06, 2014 01:44pm

I am surprised to know that there are Pakistani women who want to marry Saudis. Wouldn't jumping into the Arabian see be a more convenient option?

ML Aug 06, 2014 01:46pm

Saudi Arabia? You mean the Kingdom/country with hands down the worst human rights record on the planet, where child rape and systematic abuse of women is law! Pfhhhhh.

Sid Aug 06, 2014 01:49pm

@ahmed LITTLE???

Moiz Omar Aug 06, 2014 01:51pm

Why do we live up to these Arabs when they treat us like trash? I say tit-for-tat.

Nero Aug 06, 2014 01:52pm

@Kaiser Waziri the woman with lust for money. And you know money is the big thing nowadays.

adil rana Aug 06, 2014 01:53pm

What type of Islam are the Saudis following? Islam does not prohibit marriages of muslim couples. KSA should reconsider this decision.

Goga Nalaik Aug 06, 2014 02:09pm

What else should we expect from these saudis???

AGK Aug 06, 2014 02:13pm

Hmm I thought the biggest difference between yours and every other religion was that of universal brotherhood. You were supposed to be free of the shackles of caste, region etc. I wonder what happened to that. On top of that, Pakistanis used to associate themselves more with Arabs as opposed to their Eastern counterparts. Looks like even that illusion went for a toss.

fida sayani Aug 06, 2014 02:14pm

@Kaiser Waziri Only the very poor one.

Muhammed Ali Aug 06, 2014 02:19pm

Totally non- Islamic...

baby doll main sone di Aug 06, 2014 02:21pm

the reason is polio.

Civi varghese Aug 06, 2014 02:27pm

Where is the racism?in west or middle east. One muslim cannot marry another muslim?Any how we are cosidered as slaves of arabs!

Old-many-wives economics Aug 06, 2014 02:28pm

@Jashanpreet : AAAH! a new caste system under Saudi Wahabi Islam!

HSM Aug 06, 2014 02:28pm

Most of the women brought there as a Keep. Good Move

Gooch Aug 06, 2014 02:28pm

The reason may be that pak.women fail to meet quality control criteria of S.Arabia, which may include the skin complexion and other vital statistics . It may also smack the Arab opinion about Pakistanis and their social standing. Mr. Sharif should stop accepting Saudi alms in future.

Gooch Aug 06, 2014 02:31pm

@jj Grapes are not only sour but black as well

Dixit Aug 06, 2014 02:36pm

@Aleem .... Very good reply. Well done.

Old-many-wives economics Aug 06, 2014 02:40pm

@Sajid : They can now pile up on jets and go shopping in London, Paris, and New York!

Gooch Aug 06, 2014 02:41pm

@Awaz Not really, as most muslims can have 4 wives and 20 children.

Dixit Aug 06, 2014 02:41pm

@Masoud .... I have read that Saudis' can marry women from other countries but Muslims from other countries can't marry a Saudi women. Is it true?

vinie Aug 06, 2014 02:46pm

500000 womens from these four countries ? Married to saudi? I dont understand why ? I dont know about saudi girls but pakisthani girls is very beautiful and attractive !!

Ali Aug 06, 2014 02:48pm

Pakistani men & women :D Always a global heart throbe

Kazim Aug 06, 2014 03:08pm

Good for Pakistani women !

Awan Aug 06, 2014 03:08pm

@Dixit Saudi Women are allowed to marry Any man from Arab nations ( GCC Member states ) but they are not allowed to marry Any other Ajmi Muslim. So Saudi Woman can marry an Arab but Non Arabs ( Ajmi Muslims) including the people of Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh ) can never think of marring their woman. If a woman will try to marry An Ajmi Muslim then her nationality is cancelled and for example if some Pakistani man will try to marry her then she will be expelled to the Husband's land, her Saudi nationality will be cancelled and even she could be imprisoned as well.

Abdul Latif Aug 06, 2014 03:13pm

They want to say they are Arab and rest are Ajam.

Jijaji Aug 06, 2014 03:15pm

Not surprised. No one likes Pakistanis - however, it is all their own making. Rather than cursing and blaming others, do some serious introspection. Reject fanaticism, otherwise it will be the same shame for you for generations.

Sher Ahmed Jatt Aug 06, 2014 03:34pm

@salman cheema you know very well, that they are refusing Pakistanis as they think that they are inferior.

Drama Kejri Aug 06, 2014 03:46pm

and Pakistan deems itself Thekedar of UMMAH. LOL.............

Sher Ahmed Jatt Aug 06, 2014 03:53pm

@jitendra No you are wrong. It is absurd to think that we were the same stock as the people from Afghanistan to Indonesia, as this area is very diverse. Pakistanis have no similarity to Indians except those from Himachel, Punjab, Harayana, Rajasthan and western UP at most. The rest of the Indians are as alien to us as the Arabs.

Sh Aug 06, 2014 04:45pm

@jitendra Correction please. Mughals were Mongols and not arabs

riza Aug 06, 2014 05:13pm

western conspiracy!!!

logical Aug 06, 2014 05:14pm

Brotherly love........hahahhaha

A S Rao Aug 06, 2014 05:23pm

@uxman Masood I fully agree Pakistani women are far more beautiful than Saudi Arabs. But I am pained by the racial implications. Or has it something to do with terrorism?

El Cid Aug 06, 2014 05:47pm

Pakistani women need to thank Allah for His special mercies, this protection bestowed on it is they are far more feminine, delicate, innocent and graceful than the bloated misogynist Saudis deserve.

Pak girls have to be wooed, won...not bought. Not for sale.

Ahmed Aug 06, 2014 05:48pm

Muslim brotherhood

GS@Y Aug 06, 2014 05:48pm

@kumar Are you out of your mind with that racist, misogynistic statement?

Bin Ghulam Aug 06, 2014 06:01pm

hahahaha...for Saudis marriage is just as buying another car! For them woman is their personal property!!

DANISH Aug 06, 2014 06:02pm

Saudis and Meera, both are very entertaining. Dawn should categorize such news accordingly. In Entertainment section.

Seedoo Aug 06, 2014 06:03pm

I thought most Pakistanis believed they are decedents of Arabs, not Hindus fro Sub-Continent. I guess Saudis don't see it that way :-)

Syed Muzammil Aug 06, 2014 06:07pm

Do whatever you want, I don't think they'll be offering citizenship (or equal rights) anyway.

Allahditta Aug 06, 2014 06:08pm

The Saudi government knows that when a Saudi marries a Pakistani, he is not marrying the women but the whole family and the extended family, as they all want to migrate and settle down in Makkah or Madina.

Ajay vikram Singh Aug 06, 2014 06:10pm

Pakistani women should be encouraged to marry Indian (north) men though. Its a much better world over here and north indian men do like women from Pakistan.

abcd Aug 06, 2014 06:16pm

Instead of feeling good about this, Pakistanis should understand that they are being marginalized in this world. First, major airlines refuse to fly to Pak, then PIA flights have so many restrictions, Pakistanis are most likely to be stopped at airports, there is no economy to speak of, every terrorist organization has some links in Pakistan ( no matter how much you guys disagree). And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Solution is pretty simple but hard to digest, everything cant be seen through the lens of religion. Mind your own business, don't take the responsibility of all the Muslims around the world. They don't need it. You saying that muslims around the world are brothers doesn't amount to anything, this article itself shows that Saudis don't consider you as equals. Same goes for all Arabs, they don't consider Muslims from the Indian sub continent as equals at all. Look at Indonesia, Malaysia, they have millions of Muslims. They live a prosperous life since they care about their country and not meddling in other people's business.

Shabbir Aug 06, 2014 06:16pm

The commentator Hassan Nissar is right. We talk of Saudis in glowing terms and Saudis don't even care us. Instead we should get close to who are close to us.

ssp Aug 06, 2014 06:24pm

Only country where a Pakistani can find some similarity and get some respect is India but it is also the same country you want to disassociate with.

jitendra Aug 06, 2014 06:33pm

@Sher Ahmed Jatt : - @Sher Ahmed Jatt : -Still living in fools paradise....come out of well and see the ground reality. Whole of India is diversified in forms of living style, color and language so what different u said.

IndoPak Aug 06, 2014 06:35pm

It applies to India as well. In fact in Saudi passed a rule to not name Hindu's kids born as Ram or Krishna as a state rule. Arabs believe they are Muslims first hand and everyone else is second hand. Pakistan in search of Identity needs to realize and embrace it's original roots. Everyone in the Indian sub-continent all the way till even Afghanistan were once Hindus or Buddhists until the Mughal invasion of India during 12th to 16th century. Every Muslim in this region has been a forced convert to a great extent and obviously some out of choice. Every citizen in this region has Hindu ancestry that emanated from Indus valley civilization and was origin of Vedas, period. The region would be such a happy place if every citizen accepts the truth and move on with whatever form this region has currently evolved into.

Komal S Aug 06, 2014 06:35pm

@Masoud Can Pakistani men in Saudi marry a Saudi Lady? If not, is that Un-Islamic too?

David Aug 06, 2014 06:39pm

@Najma What superior race do you belong to?

Shafiq Aug 06, 2014 06:41pm

I am very pleased for these women, they are lucky to escape the soul destroying marriage. Besides it shows the fascist character of the Saudi Islam. Remember the fate of a English woman who married the Saudi King. She escaped and live back in England, her daughters are living as prisoners in Saudi Arabia.

Kranti Kumar Madineni Aug 06, 2014 06:42pm

@ayesha If they are not interested, then how come 5 Lakhs women are married to Saudis?

concerned Aug 06, 2014 06:42pm

Typical racist rule by Saudi. Shame on them.

Anup Aug 06, 2014 06:49pm

But I thought Pakistani people usually feel pride in their brotherhood with Saudis. Being a six times bigger population with nuclear weapons they should tell Saudis that they have their own merits and don't need any khairat from Saudis.

anEducatedWomen Aug 06, 2014 06:52pm

@Kaiser Waziri well said

abdulaziz Aug 06, 2014 06:54pm

Imran would have gotten really mad if this had been done by Americans.

VC Aug 06, 2014 06:57pm

Only parents of women, who can not afford to raise their daughters due to economic reasons are offered to Saudis in marriage at a price. No other family in their right mind would offer their daughters to Saudis in Pak or India. In reality, women are commodity for them - they buy them in the pretext of marriage and this is a fact.

Raj Aug 06, 2014 07:03pm

Land of Pure woman not welcome in KSA

LH Aug 06, 2014 07:04pm

What an insult! Pakistan should stop taking Saudi aid.

Mushtaq Aug 06, 2014 07:10pm

@BlackHat Arab vs non Arab, plus they want white skin and blond hair.

Saeeda Aug 06, 2014 07:10pm

@Insan Exactly, spot on.

Mushtaq Aug 06, 2014 07:12pm

@mimi sur and it opens door to Indian women too.

Globetrotter Aug 06, 2014 07:22pm

Good! now that our women are safe, we can start working on protecting our wildlife from these lunatics who show up in Pakistan every year to kill thousands of endangered species.

Mushtaq Aug 06, 2014 07:26pm

This is a typical show off of racists Saudi nation. We respect Mecca and Medina, as our holy land, not Saudis. If any women of my country, including my sister and daughter, ever wished to marry any Saudi, I will be the first to stand against that. In my personal view, Saudi men are covering their inner darkness behind their white thoubs. And the women of my country are so pretty, they can make their place anywhere in the World.

MHJ Aug 06, 2014 07:36pm

I think the Islamic world should demand this country named after a family to give up the holy city of Muslims. I don't know who put them in charge. What right do they have to govern Muslims coming and going to a city which belongs to the entire Muslim community of the world.

This nation of arabs needs mental assistance! Someone send doctors.

Sandip Bhattacharya Aug 06, 2014 07:39pm

@ayesha There are 500,000 of them!

Whistle_Blower Aug 06, 2014 07:41pm

Its just like how USA stopped Pakistanis and a few other nations from applying for immigration to USA through the VISA lottery system. The saudis we get to know about are either Sheikhs or the Al-Qaeda and TTP terrorists. In either case its better for our females.

Daaman Aug 06, 2014 07:55pm

Good move for Saudi, this will discouraging the trade of underage women under the pretense of marriage. Thousands, if not hundreds of thousands young foreign women are sold to wealthy Middle Eastern men, who marry them for a few months. I hope they apply the same to India, and Indonesians too now that entry from usual places are blocked.

Imran A. Aug 06, 2014 08:00pm

Blessing in disguise...I wonder what population of Saudi couples are a 1-1 relationship ?

dr sharma Aug 06, 2014 08:18pm

they are allowed to marry Indians.

Khaled Aug 06, 2014 08:51pm

Good news, Saudis don't deserve Pakistani girls.

Syed Ahmed Aug 06, 2014 09:16pm

Is it Islamic?

Abbas Aug 06, 2014 09:22pm

Pakistan should ban Pakistani men from marring Pakistani women, If they are your COUSIN.

pathanoo Aug 06, 2014 09:35pm

Oh God, How lucky are the women of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Chad and Mynamar.

Lucky Star Aug 06, 2014 09:39pm

@salman cheema Don't be racist. Arab women are also beautiful and intelligent, but are in short supply for Arab men.

h.harris Aug 06, 2014 09:48pm

so much for Pakistani Arab heritage!

IKE Aug 06, 2014 09:50pm

Moment of pause and moment to reconsider out relations with Arabs as whole. Did anyone noticed, India is not on the list?

Sudhakar Aug 06, 2014 09:52pm

Saudis have made it amply clear that they do not respect Pakistanis. Why are Pakistanis trying to be more Arab than the Arabs themselves? Have some self-respect.

genesis Aug 06, 2014 10:30pm

@Farooq Ali No Irani women do not count, they are shias and so not islamic.

Sandip Aug 06, 2014 10:38pm

@Farooq Ali : Pakistanis harping on Islamic community, when all that the world cares is self-interest, makes them a laughing stock.

answer Aug 06, 2014 10:50pm

The reason to this is to protect both the foreign women and the nations reputation as there have been many cases where local Saudi men mistreat women from these countries, who are many in Saudia, from abuse and mistreatment. They treat them worse than they do Saudi women. So, please understand and stop the abuse. The need for approval is so they can check both the background of the man for any spousal abuse and to watch them closely.

Despite the fact this ban could be blessing in disguise for many Pakistani women, I regard this ban as a blatant act of discrimination by Saudi government. It is not even against the principles of equality that our beloved Prophet Mohammad PBUH taught us but also violation of basic human rights.

Imagine if someone in the West, such as the UK or Denmark, would have imposed a ban on Pakistani women marrying British or Danish, there would have been consequent uproar around the Muslim world and many Muslim zealots would have regarded the ban as a 'sochi samji saazish' and possibly would have linked that ban as part of 'zionist agenda'.

But unfortunately, since this ban has been imposed by our dear, brotherly Muslim state of hijaz, many of us won't bother developing conspiracy theories on this subject. Even worse, many of us think that Saudis were right to do so.

As many of the other bloggers have said on this blog that this ban is just a wake up call for us, Pakistanis, who blindly consider Saudi state as our spiritual father or brother! whatever...

nadeem Aug 06, 2014 11:18pm

A grim violation of human rights and a signof ignorance.

Get your facts straight Aug 06, 2014 11:38pm

@MHJ We have sent several doctors there (most doctors there are either from India- Pakistan or Europe- almost none of their own) but all efforts have been in vain. The Arab countries till early 50s would look up to India and Pakistan for assistance as the world was at that time a coal driven economy and the Arab countries having arid land and dry climate had little to eat and drink. But after oil became the root source for energy the Arab countries hit the jackpot and after reaching the position of strength they started showing their high handedness. Ask any elderly person from Pakistan or India and he will confirm that this. Pakistan and India are still extremely rich in other forms natural resources. Wait for another 20-25 years when oil no longer remains the primary energy source and then see their treatment towards us, as they will then need us to provide them with cheap food and water- a small glimpse into the future became evident when US imposed a ban on import of Iranian oil which put Iran is a big mess but it was India, South Africa and a few other nations that withstood US pressure and backed Iran and agreed to pay for the oil either in gold or by cancelling it with the payments due from Iran for food grains.

Talal Aug 06, 2014 11:38pm

such an insensitive and ignorent view about disables. Dawn should have titled this news as: "saudis having disabled wives, allowed to marry women from Pakistan n bla bla". jahil.

Atam Vetta Aug 06, 2014 11:41pm

The famous Pak satirist KING Paracha once explained the relationship between Arabs and Pakistanis as "Arabs are our brothers and we, their camels".

Ajaya K Dutt Aug 06, 2014 11:42pm

They should match the horoscope also; but a Kingdom approved Pundit.

Ahmer Aug 06, 2014 11:45pm

Saudi old men come to Hyderabad Deccan and pay top dollars for young girls as their third or fourth wife. They dare not do that with Pakistani women and that is why this discriminatory order against them. Angoor khatte hain.

raja hindustani Aug 06, 2014 11:52pm

So..... is that means Pakistanis are not descedents of Arabs...???

Irman Aug 07, 2014 12:15am

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. You know that every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not astray from the path of righteousness after I am gone. (OUR PHOPHET MUHAMMED (PBUH))

Saba Aug 07, 2014 12:20am

First of all - this is awesome news. Our little girls are safe from older Saudi men. Secondly - Dawn - what sort of news article is this? Where is the rest of it that tells why the ban?

Sal Aug 07, 2014 12:55am

If only the people who are commenting here would make up the majority of our country.

I am not an Arab Aug 07, 2014 01:41am

@BlackHat No. No. Not discrimination against the fellow Arabs. The discrimination against the Pakistanis, Myanmar and Bangladesh and Chad people. ( Unless of course these nationality people consider themselves as Arabs as well). I mean there is a section in Pakistan who think that they are Arabs.

Pakistani Girl Aug 07, 2014 01:42am

taimoor shaukat Aug 07, 2014 03:04am

Just for a laugh Pakistan should impose ban on marrying saudi women.

Ali Aug 07, 2014 04:39am

This is a reward for those who blindly love the Saudis and idolize their culture and think of them as our big brothers

Wes Aug 07, 2014 07:09am

@Kaiser Waziri good one

Mohd Aug 07, 2014 07:20am

Pakistan is an imposed design by the vicious colonial power of Britain from the last century. She is in constant conflict within herself and the rest of the world - exactly created for this purpose by design..

Adil Jadoon Aug 07, 2014 07:54am

@BlackHat Pakistanis are not Arabs. LOL

Adil Jadoon Aug 07, 2014 07:55am

@Masoud There is no Islamic law in Saudi Arabia, it is a Kingdom.

Abdul Aug 07, 2014 08:52am

@jitendra Please! let them believe what they want to believe.

Amir Cheema Aug 07, 2014 08:57am

@jitendra My family is Sikh converted to Muslim. So are many others and may be most in Pakistan like this. I am always proud and thankful to my ancestor who decided to become Muslim for whatever reason. Our beautiful religion says that Arabs are not superior to non-arabs and vice versa. I will always consider Saudi my brother even if he does not consider me his brother or even if he considers me inferior. I don't have any inferiority complex because I know God has made us equal and I will keep the hope that Allah will guide us all.

Abdul Aug 07, 2014 08:58am

@Rashid Ishaq Nice of you to provide this deep insight. Hope you will continue with your India obsession which has brought your country to the brink of failure (I am being polite). We hope to see many interesting things happening in your country in the near future.

illawarrior Aug 07, 2014 08:59am

@Kaiser Waziri A poor one!

Abdul Aug 07, 2014 09:00am

@Mohammad Iqbal Oh yes! Pakistan is centuries old ?

illawarrior Aug 07, 2014 09:05am

The restrictions on Saudi women marrying foreigners is even worse!

ss Aug 07, 2014 09:13am

why would any pakistani woman want to marry any Saudis unless for their wealth. If saudi royal family is the typical example of their handsomeness, a bloated figures, then Pakistani ladies would be better off staying away from saudi men. Pakistani and Irananian women are one of the best looking women in the world, no exaggeration but wth some exceptions and may be those are the one living in saudi arabia.

Last Word Aug 07, 2014 09:26am

This is the moment of truth for Pakistan to stop identifying itself with the Arabs and rewrite its fake history as the same is leading to frustration in youth of the country. The Saudis have named those countries only, whom it perceives as converts and not original Muslims which is true for all mentioned including Pakistan. What matters most is following truly the principles of the religion or faith adopted by the country or individuals and definitely not the origin which only is believed by those who are ignorant and filled with hatred for others, which is unacceptable to the Almighty Allah/God.

Mekal Faruki Aug 07, 2014 09:39am

This article is complete nonsense. Rashid claims the marriages have been "prohibited" then claims they are "discouraged" Either it is prohibited or it is discouraged it cannot be both.

The observer Aug 07, 2014 09:42am

Can Pakistani men marry four Saudi women?

kalimullah Aug 07, 2014 09:44am

Such order falsifies that the Muslim community is not one ummah so far and has its own interest according to its geo-politico conditions. Those in the era of today, who try to raise the banner of one religion, one community for the sake of mobilization in order to achieve their own interests, in actuality are befooling the muslim masses .

Son of the Morning Light Aug 07, 2014 09:49am

@BlackHat Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Chad are not Arab countries.

Syed Ali Aug 07, 2014 10:00am

Saudi Arabia is supposed to be the cradle of Islam....and more than any other people, Saudis should know what the Sharia (or Islamic laws) directs about marriages! How can they disregard the Islamic teachings of giving a Muslim an option to marry another Muslim? What hypocrites!!!

rana1 Aug 07, 2014 10:37am

@MA Saeed .......bloggers this gentleman's view is more agreeable. thanks

Mehmood Aug 07, 2014 10:45am

All Saudi laws against poor South Asians, Saudi Govt. should also ban to invite Pak Army in time of trouble

Arun Aug 07, 2014 11:08am

I wish they would ban Indian brides too. There have been too many stories of lecherous Sheiks wave money in front of parents in order to "marry" virgin Muslims. One these girls are used, they are tossed aside and they come home, if they ever leave India. Pakistanis are lucky that this will not be happening to their women. Perhaps KSA's intent was to protect Pakistanis!

Human Being Aug 07, 2014 11:54am

Pakistan Public! Now you guys should understand that Arab is not your brother but India. Our culture our tradition are same. So instead of loving Arab love your neighbor.

ali tonio Aug 07, 2014 12:02pm

@Najma huh?

ali tonio Aug 07, 2014 12:02pm

@Najma huh?

Sadhna Aug 07, 2014 12:24pm

No doubt the race of Arabs is different than of subcontinent. Subcontinent Muslims were earlier Hindus but changed to believe in one God instead of thousands of Gods and Murti Puja. It would be better if marriages took place among Muslims and Hindus with no barrier on borders.

gagan sarkar Aug 07, 2014 01:57pm

@salman cheema I envy of your fortunes. Not one, but four such intelligent women in a house. Pakistan should flourish by now. The evidence suggests otherwise.

jitendra Aug 07, 2014 02:09pm

Any specific reason why Indian Muslims are excluded from the list by Arabs. Seems Arabs really have respect for Indian Muslims..

Amir Saeed Aug 07, 2014 03:21pm

So much for Equality between Arbi and Ajmi. The Saudis are such racists.

Iqbal Aug 07, 2014 03:22pm

Poor Arabs of Pakistan slighted by blue blooded Arabs of Saudi Arabia. All muslims are crying over ignoring Ummah by the custodians of faith.

just_a_reader Aug 07, 2014 03:26pm

How are you feeling al-Bakistanis?

Anil Nair Aug 07, 2014 05:20pm

I don't know how Pakistanis are treated by the Arabs, but I can tell you the Indians, even the Indian Muslims are treated with utter contempt.

Ahmed Aug 07, 2014 05:57pm

@Husain Jan Saudis wont ban hajj. They make billions of dollars from haj every year.

Hashim khan Aug 07, 2014 06:01pm

It makes sense. Saudi society has a lot of internal problems and abandoned immigrant women is also on of these problems. It's good for Pakistani women as well because they are better off not being married to such brothers who will abandon them and the state won't take care if them.

Reza Aug 07, 2014 06:12pm

To all Pakistani women, please do not lose heart. Just because the Saudis won't marry you, does not mean the rest of the world is not willing to marry you.

Last Word Aug 07, 2014 06:23pm

NFP should pen a sarcastic one to counter this order as Saudis have crossed the red line.

pathanoo Aug 07, 2014 08:34pm

@Jashanpreet You are so right. Actually, Saudis don't treat Pakistanis much better than dogs.

pathanoo Aug 07, 2014 08:37pm

@Masoud Well, the prtector of the faith just shoved it down your throat. Are you still ill singing the praises of the Saudis - your Muslim Brothers from the Ummah?

Indus Aug 07, 2014 08:50pm

@kumar your comment is not in good taste

SHYAM LAL Aug 07, 2014 08:54pm

When I used to work in Gulf, the Sheikhs equated Indian Muslims with Other Indians(Hindus) and not treated them as their own Muslim brothers. Even they treated Pakistanis also equal to Indian Muslims i e as workers. It is to their credit that they did not practise discrimination. It is curious that Pakistanis always want to be part of Arab World but the Arabs think otherwise. Latest direction to Saudi is clearly supporting such type of practices. The Pakistanis are a part of the sub continent and they must treat themselves likewise.

Dr k Aug 07, 2014 09:36pm

Folks, as an Indian I can tell you not to worry - I have more respect for Pakistanis in some ways than for Saudis. They are duds without oil.

Saudi Arabia: They wont marry your women ( which is infact good).

China: They won't allow skull cap/Burka and other Islamic symbols in the state. (jews can wear star of david, Chritians can wear Cross, only muslims can't).

Still time, Choose your friends wisely. ( Hint: India)

Saudi men must like to marry Pakistani woman that is why their government is discouraging it to support local weddings. Saudi's banned where the demand is unlike other nationalities where there is no demand :). Pakistanis are good hearted, and friendly people. Yes, amongst Pakistanis there are Afghan, Arab, Turkish, Iranian descendants, the proof is in the pudding :).

BigBoy Aug 08, 2014 06:27am

I think it is mostly / traditionally men or their family beg for women's hand to their respective families and then women consider / approves if she desire. So, who cares if Saudi men don't wish to marry Pakistani women.... it is a matter of choice after all.

illawarrior Aug 08, 2014 09:20am

@Mohammad Ali khan The offspring are severely discriminated against when the mother is Saudi and the father is a foreigner. They are fully accepted when the father is Saudi and the mother is a foreigner.

illawarrior Aug 08, 2014 09:37am

@Babar Which statistics show that? Geohive shows the worldwide gender ratio as 1.0175 men to women. Index Mundi lists it as 1.01. Wikipedia states that in 2014, 107 boys are being born for every 100 girls. Saudi Arabia is listed as having 124 males for every 100 females, but that is probably due to the high proportion of expat bachelors working on construction sites. The number for Pakistan is 103.

illawarrior Aug 08, 2014 09:38am

@BigBoy The whole point of this article is that it is no longer choice - the choice has been taken away.

T. A. Khan Aug 08, 2014 09:40am

Very good decision by Saudi Arabians.

It is absurd. Marriage should the decision of an individual and not the business of any governmnet. Suadis must respect the women and allow them more freedom.

Akram Aug 08, 2014 07:54pm

LOL, only in saudia arabia do you need state permission to get married. Next you will need it to break wind.

ajam Aug 08, 2014 07:58pm

it is a rule made by the government and does not reflect the aspirations of the people. I have met saudis here who are proud of their alhind heritage and you find them using alhindi added to their name. I have met saudi women who have grandmothers coming from undivided India before 1947. I have met doctors here who show love for pakistan because they went to king edward and dow medical college and miss going there because now they have to fill a long questionnaire if they want to visit Pakistan. The rule is for all foreigners and not specifically for the 4 countries mentioned. Many saudi women want to marry pakistani men as told to me by a saudi lady. but the law does not allow them to do so. In the end we shud not be betrayed by reports which are incomplete and with a purpose which is to create hard feelings between the muslims. Lastly just a reminder that Mohammed SAW told us to love the ARabs and the Arabic language because he was from them and the best generation of this ummah i from them. (the sahabasRA). I am here for the last 4 years and I find the local peopel feel embarassed by these laws toward the non Arabs. So please understand that the law is made by some one else and does not reflect the people.

@Kaiser Waziri lol well said

Imran Aug 08, 2014 11:12pm

Pakistani's are good for doing labour jobs in Saudi and not worthy of marrying I guess .. I hope this crazyness about Muslim Ummah goes from Pakistani mindset. You should know who you are and be proud of what you are. You should know and acknowledge your history, civilization and ancestors. No matter how much you suck up to Arabs you cannot become an Arab.

Mo Aug 08, 2014 11:12pm

VINOD Aug 09, 2014 10:51am

@ajam Dear Sir you seem to be so upset and still defending the insult heaped. I feel the best comment on board is by abcd "Solution is pretty simple but hard to digest, everything cant be seen through the lens of religion. Mind your own business, don't take the responsibility of all the Muslims around the world. They don't need it...........Look at Indonesia, Malaysia, they have millions of Muslims. They live a prosperous life since they care about their country and not meddling in other people's business." If people of Pakistan can digest and take this advice their world will be full of peace and progress.

@Najma thats why Pakistani women excel i everything above ad beyond any Arab women, pilots, doctors, engineers, businesswomen, members of parliament in Western countries....and so on, all Arab women do is get dressed up and look pretty alongwith the other wives of oil rich husbands

This is also Indian policy although not blunt like Saudi Arabia. Pakistani girls married to Indian boys are not given Indian nationality for fifteen to twenty years. They live on visa which are extended after great hassles. Girls can not take jobs and plan their carrier. All this is done to discourage such marriages and harass families. Where on earth such inhuman treatment is given(except saudi Arabia).
