HYDERABAD, July 20: The residents of the Bhagat Colony, Kotri, held a demonstration outside the press club here on Sunday to protest against the rejection of a development scheme of their area.
The demonstrators carried placards and raised slogans against the DCO, Dadu.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders of the Hindu Meghwar Panchayat and the Awami Welfare Association, councillor Ramesh, Manzoor Panhwar and others said there were 100 houses in Bhagat Colony but no development work had been carried out there for the last 50 years.
They said various development schemes had been undertaken in Kotri under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme but not a single development scheme was initiated in the area.
They claimed that on the protest of the people, district Nazim Dadu, Malik Asad Sikandar, had approved a drainage scheme and some other development work and assured that the development work would be initiated under the phase-IV of the KPP.
They said the DCO, also the project director of KPP, had invited tenders for phase-IV of the KPP which did not include any development scheme for Bhagat Colony.
They warned that if the residential area was not included in the development schemes of the KPP phase-IV, they would continue their protest.
DEMO: The pickup drivers, plying vehicles between Hyderabad and Jamshoro, held a protest demonstration outside the local press club here on Sunday against the excesses of the traffic police.
They parked about 40 pickups outside the press club as a mark of protest.
Talking to journalists, Ali Ahmed Birhamani and other drivers said they paid tax to the city council but the police were harassing the drivers and demanding extortion. They said the police were also trying to remove the pickup stand from its present location near the Civil Hospital.
They appealed to the authorities to protect the drivers against police excesses.
