Brutal Israel

Published August 2, 2014

YOUR editorial regarding Israel’s brutalities (Aug 1) makes a lot of sense. Bombing a UN school, where many Gazan civilians had taken refuge from Israel’s incessant bombings, is cruelty of the first order. The military authorities of Israel are still shamelessly saying: “we have a policy ... we don’t target civilians”. How blatantly hypocritical.

The UNRWA spokesman is right in calling it a matter of ‘universal shame’. The UN Secretary-General, who usually adopts a hypocritical line in these matters, could not refrain from speaking the truth and condemn Israel on this callous bombing.

While Western leaders have turned a blind eye towards the Israeli brutalities in the Gaza Strip, the Arab and Muslim world is surprisingly quiet and perhaps indirectly playing the accomplice game.

The conclusion of your editorial is heart-rending, to say the least: “Unfortunately, little else can be expected of a people busy killing each other from Pakistan to Nigeria.”
