TMA fails to drain rainwater

Published July 20, 2003

BAHAWALPUR, July 19: The tehsil municipal administration has failed to clear away the rainwater from several localities even after two days of downpour.

According to information gathered on Saturday, various low-lying areas flooded with rainwater and sullage after sewerage lines were choked. Filthy water was stagnant even on many main roads, which had become almost impassable for motorists and pedestrians.

The authorities concerned have yet to take measures to clear away the rainwater. People have demanded the TMO that it should order proper drainage of filthy water from various localities to save them from inconvenience.

Meanwhile, frequent electricity breakdowns in many parts of the district have kept people in difficulty. They complained that Mepco office did not respond to their calls and delayed restoration of power supply.

Rain in Cholistan brought a life to the people and cattle, who now have ample drinking water available.
