PESHAWAR, July 19: Peshawar town council-I presented a Rs 204.29 million budget for the year 2003-04 here on Saturday with a development outlay of Rs24.7 million.

Services expenditures for the current financial year have been estimated at Rs130.11 million while the amount allocated for non-developmental expenditures is Rs47.4 million.

Besides, Rs1 million is allocated for labour, farmers, minorities and women.

Acting Nazim Town-I Shouket Ali presented the budget at the city district council hall. City district Nazim Azam Afridi and convener Dr Iqbal Khalil were also present during the presentation.

Presenting revenue and receipts estimates, the acting Nazim said that town council-I expected to receive Rs72 million in the shape of octroi tax while the city district government would release Rs20 million as operational grant.

He said the provincial government would provide Rs6 million for developmental schemes while town-I would generate Rs67.1 million through its own resources.

He said that a sum of Rs40 million is to be received from urban immovable property tax and Rs1 million would be received from T&T department.

Mr Shouket said that town administration would accord priority to drinking water to overcome its shortage in the area. In this connection, he said, the administration had planned to install 39 tube-wells, of which 20 would be installed under the Khushal Pakistan Programme.
