ISLAMABAD, July 18: The World Food Programme (WFP) and Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) are jointly carrying out an analysis of the food insecurity situation in Pakistan.

This was stated by the WFP country director, German Valdiva, while speaking at the first meeting of the Technical Committee of Food Security Analysis.

The WFP official said idea behind undertaking such a study was to systematically identify and assess the food insecurity and vulnerability issues in the country.

The committee included representatives of UN agencies, government departments and civil society organizations.

Though it is for the first time that such a study had been initiated in Pakistan, the WFP had already carried it out in 10 other countries. Besides, it will also serve as a planning tool for the government agencies, the WFP and other development organizations for facilitating their interventions whenever and wherever needed.
