Slain Ahmadi businessman laid to rest

CHINIOT: An Ahmadi businessman who was shot dead in Shaheed Benazir-abad (Nawabshah) was laid to rest in a graveyard in Chiniot on Wednesday.

His funeral was attended by a large number of Ahmadiyya community’s members.

Unidentified people opened fire on Imtiaz Ahmed outside his furniture shop in the Shaheed Benazirabad’s busy Trunk Bazar on Sunday. He received bullets in his head.

Imtiaz Ahmad is survived by wife and three sons.

His body was brought to Chenab Nagar for burial.

A spokesperson for Jamaat Ahmadiyya, Sale-emuddin, condemned the killing of Imtiaz Ahmed.

He said hundreds of Ahmadis had been killed in recent years, but not a single culprit had been brought to justice.

The spokesperson called upon the government to take action against people spreading hate material against Ahmadis.

An uncle of Imtiaz Ahmed was also shot dead in 2008. Seth Mohammad Yousuf was district chief of Jamaat Ahmadiyya in Nawabshah.

Very Sad to hear. And you maybe right that minorities have not been protected but at the same time do not forget that even the majorities are not protected. Its a issue of implementing law and order. The culprits/terrorists take full advantage and try to divide us further. I hope that citizens become expressive with fellow countrymen and actually make an effort to show that we care.

Pakistan seems more worried abt atrocitites to muslims in iraq, burma, india, america ...and entire world...but keep killing own brothers in pakistan. I would first clean my house, then the patio and then the street

@zak Dear It does not mean all Pakistani are same, I have very good Pakistani friends too. I have never seen any strike or condemning the acts, but there is a lot of hue and cry for if muslim people affected even far from Pakistan. This dual nature is cause of concern and some frustating..which force us think about you differently.

Sad it is to see another member of the peaceful Ahmadiyya community gunned down. However, in the news they have mentioned Nawabshah as Benazirabad. This news though not unexpected shows the cheapness of the Pakistani political mind. Changing the established names of cities and monuments is just nonsensical. If somebody likes to name a place after Benazir they should first make it from scratch. The relabeling of someone else's places is completely immoral.

The target killing of Ahmadies is continued for a very long period. The assassin usually target a high profile person may it be an accomplished businessman, a highly qualified doctor or a high profile social worker having very good reputation in general public. The Ahmadi community is full of important and wise individuals who are very much patriots and true Pakistanis. They were forced to become a minority by a dictator regime just to gain a short-time favour/support by general religious public. Such killings will lead to brain drain, which our country cannot afford. We must sympathise with the family of the deceased and to the community as well.
