Fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s younger sister and underworld queen Haseena Parkar died of a heart attack in South Mumbai’s Habib Hospital on Sunday evening, Indian media reported.

“She died of a cardiac arrest, additional commissioner of police, Krishna Prakash told The Hindu.

“The news was confirmed by Iqbal Kaskar (Dawood’s brother) to Chota Shakeel (Dawood’s lieutenant) who in turn broke the news to Dawood Ibrahim,” a senior Maharashtra police officer said.

Dawood, one of India’s most wanted men, has also been sick for a long time.

Parkar was reportedly the former Mumbai underworld’s don primary contact person in Mumbai for managing his extortion business.

“If Dawood wanted any information on anyone, she was asked to gather it. She herself used to run a small extortion racket in Nagpada telling local builders and businessman that she was the don’s sister,” Mr. Prakash said.

She was booked in an alleged extortion case in 2008.

Pakistan routinely denies Indian charges that it shelters Dawood Ibrahim ever since the don became a fugitive for his alleged role in the serial bomb blasts that hit Mumbai in 1993 in apparent retaliation for the demolition of the Babri Masjid in December 1992.
